World Mental Health Day

  • National Post Day 2025 is celebrated across India on October 10 to honour the Indian Postal Department (India Post) for its remarkable contribution to communication, public service delivery, and rural empowerment. The day recognises over 150 years of service in connecting India's diverse regions — from urban centres to remote villages — and transforming from a traditional postal network into a digital, financial, and logistics powerhouse.

World Sight Day

  • World Sight Day, observed on every second Thursday of October, aims to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining healthy vision. In 2025, on October 9, the world observed World Sight Day under the theme "Love Your Eyes." Visual impairments have physical, emotional, social, and economic ramifications. According to the World Health Organisation, at least 2.2 billion people have a near or distance vision impairment.

World Postal Day

  • World Postal Day 2025 is observed on October 9. This day highlights the contributions of postal services to the global, social, and economic development of society. It honours the dedication of postal workers and emphasises the role of post offices in bridging the communication gap between communities.
  • This day commemorates the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874. The UPU was founded in Bern, Switzerland, as a global organisation to streamline international mail services and create a unified postal system, making it easier for countries to exchange mail.
  • In 1969, World Post Day was declared by the UPU Congress in Tokyo to promote the importance of postal services and their role in connecting people globally.
  • The theme for World Postal Day 2025 is '#PostForPeople: Local Service. Global Reach'.

India Celebrates 93rd Air Force Day

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) celebrated its 93rd Air Force Day on October 8, 2025, showcasing the strength, discipline, and modernisation of India's aerial defence forces. The day is a tribute to the men and women of the IAF and highlights their operational readiness, technological advancements, and humanitarian contributions.
  • On this occasion, Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh paid tributes to the bravehearts at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
  • This year, the IAF Day 2025 was held at the Hindon Air Force Base in Ghaziabad.

  • World Cotton Day, celebrated annually on October 7, is a global observance that recognises the economic and social significance of cotton, particularly for least-developed countries (LDCs). It underscores cotton's critical role in employment, trade, and sustainable development across five continents.
  • On August 30, 2021, the UN General Assembly formally designated 7 October as World Cotton Day, following a proposal by the Cotton-4 countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Mali, later joined by Côte d'Ivoire.

World Habitat Day

  • Every first Monday of October, the world comes together to mark World Habitat Day, a moment to reflect on the state of human settlements and the right of every person to adequate shelter.
  • World Habitat Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985, with the first observance in 1986 in Nairobi under the theme "Shelter is My Right."
  • Since then, it has become a global platform to advocate for sustainable urban development, affordable housing, and inclusive planning in response to rapidly growing cities.
  • In 1989, the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Awards were introduced to recognise outstanding contributions toward improving urban living conditions.

World Cerebral Palsy Day

  • World Cerebral Palsy Day (WCPD) is observed every year on October 6 to raise awareness about cerebral palsy (CP) — one of the most common physical disabilities in childhood. The day promotes inclusion, equality, and empowerment for those affected by CP and their families.
  • The Cerebral Palsy Alliance (Australia) and partner organizations established World Cerebral Palsy Day in 2012 to bring together individuals, families, and advocacy groups from across 100+ countries.
  • The aim was to ensure that children and adults with cerebral palsy have equal rights, opportunities, and access — regardless of geography or economic background.
  • Since then, October 6 has become a global day of solidarity and empowerment, coordinated by the World Cerebral Palsy Alliance (WCPA).
  • The 2025 observance carries the theme "Unique and United", reflecting the dual spirit of individual strength and collective solidarity in the global CP community.
