  • In a significant achievement for Indian tourism, Kerala Tourism once again put India on the global tourism map by winning the prestigious Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold Award 2024. This accolade recognises the state's innovative online contest, 'Holiday Heist', in the Digital Marketing Campaign category, further cementing Kerala's position as a leader in creative tourism promotion.
  • The award was presented at a grand function in Bangkok, coinciding with the PATA Travel Mart 2024. The ceremony took place at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre (QSNCC) in the Thai capital, bringing together tourism industry leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region.
  • The 'Holiday Heist' campaign was a month-long, ground-breaking initiative launched by Kerala Tourism in July 2023. Its primary objective was to attract tourists through an engaging and thrilling bidding game.

  • The 2024 International Mother Teresa Awards Ceremony took place at Millennium Plaza Dubai, United Arab Emirates marking the 114th birth anniversary of the esteemed humanitarian. Organised by the All-India Minority and Weaker Sections Council, this event was held outside India for only the second time, with both international ceremonies occurring in Dubai. Established posthumously after Mother Teresa's death in 1997, the awards honour exceptional individuals across various sectors including education, science, culture, sports, social work, medicine, industry, and politics.

President Murmu Gives Away First-Ever Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar

  • President Droupadi Murmu presided over the first-ever investiture ceremony for the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (National Science Awards). These awards, instituted last year (2023) to replace all existing science accolades, mark a new chapter in recognising scientific excellence in the country.
  • The ceremony's highlight was the conferral of the inaugural Vigyan Ratna Puraskar, India's highest science award, to Govindrajan Padmanabhan, a renowned biochemist and former director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. This award acknowledges Padmanabhan's significant contributions to biochemistry and his leadership in Indian scientific research.
  • The President awarded 13 Vigyan Shri Puraskars to distinguished scientists across various fields.
  • The ceremony saw the presentation of 18 Vigyan Yuva-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prizes, celebrating young scientists' innovative work.
  • The Vigyan Team Award was bestowed upon the scientists and engineers behind the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission. P. Veeramuthuvel, the project director, accepted the award on behalf of the team, highlighting India's growing prowess in space exploration.

National Geoscience Awards 2023: Honouring Excellence in Earth Sciences

  • The National Geoscience Awards (NGA) are prestigious awards instituted by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, to recognise and celebrate extraordinary achievements and contributions in the field of geosciences. Originally established in 1966 as the National Mineral Awards, the scope of these awards was broadened in 2009, leading to their renaming as the National Geoscience Awards.
  • National Geoscience Awards were presented to 21 Geoscientists in August 2024 by the President of India Droupadi Murmu in the presence of Minister of Mines G. Kishan Reddy and other distinguished geoscientists, scholars, policymakers and industry leaders. For NGA 2023, 240 nominations were received under different award categories and examined through a three-stage screening process. After detailed deliberations, the Ministry of Mines finally selected 12 awards which included 9 individual awards and 3 team awards. The 9 individual awards also included the 1 award for National Geoscience Award for Lifetime Achievement and 1 award for the National Young Geoscientist Award.
  • The National Geoscience Award for Lifetime Achievement was conferred upon Prof. Dhiraj Mohan Banerjee, Emeritus Scientist, INSA and the National Young Geoscientist Award was presented to Dr. Ashutosh Pandey, Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Thiruvananthapuram.
