Vladimir Putin Signs Pact with Kim Jong Un

Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a new agreement which includes a promise of mutual aid if one of their countries is attacked, amidst increasing tensions for both with the west.
There is no clarity on what kind of aid is referred to in the deal, which has only been described as a 'comprehensive strategic partnership'.
The deal was inked in Putin's first visit to Pyongyang in 24 years. North Korea has allegedly been providing arms to Moscow in its war against Ukraine, which has led several western countries to apply sanctions against the two countries. Russia has been offering North Korea with knowledge transfers and economic aid to develop its nuclear and missile weapons program.
The two countries also signed deals on cooperation in the fields of healthcare, medical education, and science.

India Ranks 63rd on Energy Transition Index

India was ranked 63rd on the Energy Transition Index released, in June 2024, by the World Economic Forum.
European nations dominated the top ranks with Sweden topping the index, followed by Denmark, Finland, Switzerland and France in the top five. China was ranked 20th.
The improvement shown by India and other developing countries such as China and Brazil assumes significance as 83% of countries have moved backwards from last year in at least one of the three energy system performance dimensions — security, equity and sustainability.

Thailand Set to Become First Country in Southeast Asia to Recognise Same-sex Marriage

Thailand's Senate passed the final reading of a marriage equality law, paving the way for it to become the first country in Southeast Asia to recognise same-sex couples.
The bill came after more than two decades of effort from activists and politicians, after previous drafts did not reach parliament.
With the support of nearly all lawmakers in the upper house, the law next needs royal approval. It will come into force 120 days after it is published in the royal gazette.
LGBT advocates called the move a monumental step forward, as Thailand would be the first nation in Southeast Asia to enact marriage equality legislation and the third territory in Asia, after Nepal and Taiwan.

Dr. Kapil Dua News President of the Asian Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons

Dr. Kapil Dua, a pioneer in hair transplant surgery in India with over two decades of experience, was announced as the President of the Asian Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons (AAHRS). The announcement was made at the 8th Annual Scientific Meeting and Surgical Workshop of AAHRS, held in China.
Dr Dua, who previously served as President of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) in 2022-2023 and the Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons (AHRS) India in 2016-2017, is the only Indian hair transplant surgeon to have led national, global, and now Asian organizations in hair restoration. His presidency at AAHRS will focus on advancing educational initiatives, fostering innovative surgical techniques, and enhancing collaboration among professionals across Asia.

Flagging Need for Russia to be in, India Opts Out of Ukraine Declaration

With Russia not attending the Swiss summit on peace in Ukraine held in Switzerland and calling it a 'waste of time', India did not sign the joint communique by saying that only those options acceptable to both parties can lead to abiding peace.
Representing India at the two-day summit, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs Pavan Kapoor said that India had joined the summit to explore the way forward to a negotiated settlement of a very 'complex and pressing issue'.
According to the communique, signed by as many as 80 countries, the "territorial integrity" of Ukraine should be the basis for any peace agreement to end Russia's war.

Ukraine Peace Summit Ends With Hope

The two day Summit on Peace in Ukraine at the Bürgenstock resort in Switzerland ended on Sunday with participants hoping for an end to the war between Moscow and Kyiv. 80 countries and four organisations of the 100 attending delegations supported the final joint communiqué that emerged out of the Path to Peace Summit looking at ways to end the Russia-Ukraine war raging on since February 2022.
India was a notable voice among those who did not sign the document. Current G-20 chair Brazil was in the room only as an observer.
U.S. NSA Jake Sullivan will represent the United States at the summit on Sunday and help establish working groups on returning Ukrainian children from Russia and on energy security.

G7 Summit 2024

The 50th G7 summit was held from June 13 to 15, 2024 at Borgo Egnazia in the city of Fasano in Apulia, Italy.
The G7 countries are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The summit was chaired by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
A lot of important things were talked about at the 2024 G7 meeting in Italy. These include calming down the world economy, tackling climate change, improving health systems around the world after COVID-19, and handling political tensions, especially between China and Russia.
