The Yorkshire County Cricket Club confirmed the passing of Dickie Bird, one of the most celebrated and respected figures in world cricket, at the age of 92.
Born in Barnsley in 1933, Bird played first-class cricket for Yorkshire and Leicestershire before an injury cut short his playing career.

Robert Redford, the Hollywood golden boy who became an Oscar-winning director, liberal activist and godfather for independent cinema under the name of one of his best-loved characters, died in September 2025 at 89.
After rising to stardom in the 1960s, Redford was one of the biggest stars of the '70s with such films as "The Candidate," "All the President's Men" and "The Way We Were," capping that decade with the best director Oscar for 1980's "Ordinary People," which also won best picture in 1980.
Sarada Hoffman, Kalakshetra Bharatanatyam Guru, Dies at 96
Renowned Bharatanatyam exponent and Kalakshetra teacher Alladi Sarada (Sarada Hoffman), affectionately called Chinna Sarada and Sarada teacher, died in September 2025 in California.
She played a significant role in shaping and standardising the Kalakshetra methodology for Bharatanatyam, and her efforts unified several loosely knit traditional training systems.
She had received many prestigious awards, including the Central Sangeet Natak Academy (1996) and the first 'Rukmini Devi Medal for Excellence in the Arts', instituted by the Centre for Contemporary Culture, New Delhi.
