Indian Men's Football Team to Play CAFA Nations Cup
India's senior men's national football team will participate in the 2025 Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Nations Cup as part of their preparations for the final round of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers. The tournament is scheduled to be held from August 31 to September 8 at the Hisor Central Stadium in Tajikistan.
India received an invitation to take part in the tournament after Malaysia withdrew due to logistical challenges and the unavailability of players. The tournament falls outside the official FIFA calendar.

As Indian hockey marks its glorious 100-year journey, Hockey India (HI) announced landmark initiatives to boost the sport's growth and celebrate its legacy. At the 15th Hockey India Congress held in Mahabalipuram on July 27, 2025, HI unveiled a major increase in financial grants for national and grassroots-level tournaments and announced a nationwide hockey festival scheduled for November 7, 2025.
In a bid to strengthen infrastructure and expand participation, Hockey India will now allocate Rs. 70 lakh each for the senior men's and senior women's National Championships. For the Junior and Sub-Junior categories, both men and women, Rs. 30 lakh each will be provided to ensure quality competitions and better exposure for young athletes.

India's Shooting League Gets International Federation Support
The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) put its weight behind the upcoming Shooting League of India (SLI), a National Rifle Association of India-organised event, stating that the event was part of the ISSF's design to keep the sport in the Olympic programme.
Shooting has been excluded from the Commonwealth Games on multiple occasions. It was excluded from this year's (2025) World University Games, too. The withdrawal of the programme, coupled with pressure from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has forced the world body to think outside the box.
Divya Deshmukh Wins FIDE Women's Chess World Cup 2025
India's rising chess star Divya Deshmukh scripted history by defeating veteran Koneru Humpy in the tiebreaks and won the FIDE Women's Chess World Cup held in Batumi, Georgia. At just 19 years old, Divya not only clinched one of the most prestigious titles in women's chess but also became India's fourth female Grandmaster (GM).
Divya was crowned World Junior Champion in the girls' section in 2024.
She was instrumental in India's gold medal win at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, where she also bagged an individual gold.
World University Games 2025
India won three medals on the final day of the World University Games as the contingent closed its campaign with a total of 12 medals at 20th place in Rhine Ruhr, Germany. India won two gold medals, five silver and five bronze medals.
This was a poor performance compared to the previous edition in Chengdu, China when India finished seventh in the medal tally with 26 medals in total including 11 gold, 5 silver, and 10 bronze medals.

Cricket to be Part of 2026 Asian Games
Asian Cricket Council (ACC) convened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dhaka, bringing together representatives from all of the organisation's Member nations, where it was decided that cricket will be included in the upcoming Asian Games 2026 to be held in Japan, which will see participation 10 (ten) men's and 8 (eight) women's teams from across the continent, to be chosen based on their rankings.
The meeting was chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, ACC president and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and was attended by all ACC members.

Badminton Asia Junior Individual Championships 2025
India's campaign at the Badminton Asia Junior Individual Championships 2025 being held in Indonesia till July 27 began on a strong note led by commanding performances in the singles events.
In women's singles, Vennala Kalagotla impressed with two back-to-back wins -- a swift 21-6, 21-10 win over Alissa Kuleshova in just 15 minutes, followed by a 21-18, 21-16 result against Indonesia's Auberta Zerlina.
