This milestone came under the leadership of Professor Sukumar Mishra, whose vision and dedication have played a pivotal role in positioning IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on the global academic map.
The BRICS Summit, which brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, provided a unique opportunity for the institute to highlight its achievements and contributions in areas like sustainable technology, innovation, and research.

WHO Declares Egypt Malaria-Free

Egypt reached a significant public health milestone by being officially declared 'malaria-free' by the World Health Organisation (WHO). This achievement makes Egypt the second country in the world to receive this certification in 2024, following Cabo Verde.
Egypt is the third country in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region to receive malaria-free certification, joining the United Arab Emirates (2007) and Morocco (2010).
This milestone was achieved after 14 years in the region, marking a significant victory against a disease that has plagued Egypt since ancient times.

IIT-Madras to Host Academia-industry Supported AR, VR and Mixed Reality Summit

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras's eXperiential Technology Innovation Centre (XTIC) will host academia-industry supported 'eXtended Reality' (XR) summit. The event will be held on November 16 and 17 at the campus. The summit is also open for researchers who are working in segments like augmented reality virtual reality and mixed reality.
The IIT Madras summit is crucial to evaluate the current landscape of experiential technologies and address the existing skill gaps to ensure sustainable growth and innovation, claimed the press release.
This summit will also feature collaboration with 'AWE' (Augmented World Expo), a premier global VR/AR event since 2010 that has been a community of professionals, innovators, and creators in XR. This year, XTIC will host an exclusive 'AWE Evening' during the summit, laying the groundwork for a full-fledged AWE event in India by 2026.

IISc Bangalore to Establish Shriram Group RT Chair in Computational Mechanics

The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in collaboration with the Shriram group, will establish the Shriram Group RT Chair in Computational Mechanics at the Institute. The Chair will be awarded to distinguished faculty conducting frontier research in computational mechanics and is aimed at supporting cutting-edge research in computational mechanics, encompassing various fields within mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computational sciences.
The appointed Chair at the Institute, a distinguished faculty member at the associate or full professor level, will focus on research that applies computational methods to address real-world challenges.

IIT Delhi Introduces MS in Healthcare Technology for Professionals

The Centre for Biomedical Engineering (CBME) at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi introduced a specialised Master of Science (Research) programme in 'Healthcare Technology,' designed to narrow the gap between the fields of medicine and engineering. The programme, set to begin in January 2025, is tailored for professionals in the medical and clinical fields. Eligible candidates can submit their applications on the official website.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati researchers created an innovative, cost-effective photodetector using advanced materials and techniques. Their breakthrough technology, based on formamidinium perovskite and plasmonic nanoparticles, exhibits enhanced light detection capabilities, with significant potential applications across healthcare, environmental monitoring, and solar energy industries.
A photodetector is a crucial device that detects light and converts it into electrical signals, playing an essential role in various technologies such as cameras, medical imaging devices, environmental sensors, and communication systems.

India Doubles Grant to Enhance Education in Sri Lanka's Plantation Sector

India increased its grant for upgrading schools in Sri Lanka's plantation areas, raising its total commitment to Rs. 600 million (INR 172.25 million). This initiative is aimed at improving educational infrastructure in the Indian-origin Tamil community, with the focus on nine schools across Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern Provinces. The move strengthens India-Sri Lanka bilateral ties in education, continuing the legacy of development cooperation initiated in previous years.
The grant increase came after diplomatic letters were exchanged between Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha and Sri Lanka's Education Secretary J.M. Thilaka Jayasundara. The project will enhance facilities at nine plantation schools, supporting thousands of students in marginalised communities.

'Choose France Tour 2024': Bridging Indian students with opportunities in France

The French Government launched the 'Choose France Tour 2024,' a five-city initiative aimed at attracting Indian students. With over 600 French companies operating in India and providing employment to more than 400,000 people, France presents numerous career opportunities for aspiring students.
Kicking off in Mumbai, the tour will visit Chandigarh, New Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, showcasing over 50 esteemed French universities and higher education institutions.
This initiative by the French government, in collaboration with Campus France, aims to connect Indian talent with the academic excellence found in France.

Jharkhand Cabinet Approves Rs. 530 crore for New Colleges, Polytechnics Projects

The Jharkhand Cabinet approved a series of educational initiatives totalling Rs. 530 crore aimed at establishing new engineering colleges and polytechnics in the state. Key projects include the construction of the Government Polytechnic in Chakulia, Jamshedpur, estimated at Rs.134.18 crore; the Government Engineering College in Jamshedpur, with a budget of Rs. 254.93 crore; and another government polytechnic in Potka, Jamshedpur, costing Rs. 136.13 crore.
In addition to these projects, the cabinet sanctioned Rs. 42.83 crore for the second phase of the Netarhat Tourism Project and plans to establish institutes similar to the Netarhat Residential School in Kolhan, Santhal Pargana, and North Chotanagpur divisions.
