Nepal's Purnima Shrestha Becomes First Woman in World to Climb Mount Everest Thrice in 13 Days
Purnima Shrestha, a 32-year-old mountaineer from Gorkha, Nepal, and a photojournalist by profession has made history as the first woman in the world to climb Mount Everest three times in the same season, all in just 13 days.
Her exceptional triple ascent beats the previous record of any woman summiteer to climb Everest thrice in a single season. She has climbed Everest four times, with a prior summit in 2018.

AliExpress, an e-commerce site owned by Chinese giant Alibaba, signed former England soccer captain David Beckham as a brand ambassador as it plays catch-up with rival PDD Holdings' Temu in a battle to sell cheap made-in-China goods to the world.
Alibaba is now investing aggressively to boost global sales as domestic e-commerce growth wanes. Its international division, which includes AliExpress, is its fastest growing unit with revenues surging 45 per cent year on year over January to March.
Jyoti Ratre Becomes India's Oldest Woman to Conquer Mount Everest
Jyoti Ratre, an entrepreneur and fitness enthusiast from Madhya Pradesh, etched her name in history by becoming the oldest Indian woman to conquer Mount Everest. Ratre's triumphant ascent to the summit of the world's highest peak came six years after Sangeeta Bahl, at the age of 53, earned the title of 'India's oldest woman to climb Mount Everest' in May 2018.
For Ratre, this extraordinary feat was the culmination of unwavering determination and resilience. Her journey to the top of Mount Everest was not without its challenges, as she had previously attempted the summit in 2023 but was forced to turn back from an altitude of 8,160 meters due to harsh weather conditions. Undeterred by this setback, Ratre's resolve remained steadfast, and she embarked on her second attempt with renewed vigour.

Legendary Disney Songwriter Richard M. Sherman Passes Away
Richard M. Sherman, one half of the renowned Sherman Brothers duo, who crafted some of Disney's most iconic and memorable songs, passed away at the age of 95. Sherman, along with his late brother Robert, left an indelible mark on millions of childhoods through their award-winning compositions for films like 'Mary Poppins', 'The Jungle Book', and 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'.
Together, the Sherman Brothers won two Academy Awards for the 1964 classic 'Mary Poppins' – best score and best song for 'Chim Chim Cher-ee'. They also received a Grammy for best movie or TV score. Their partnership with Disney spanned over a decade, during which they wrote more than 150 songs, including the iconic 'It's a Small World (After All)'.
The Walt Disney Co. paid tribute to Sherman, stating, "Generations of moviegoers and theme park guests have been introduced to the world of Disney through the Sherman brothers' magnificent and timeless songs".
Shahid Afridi Appointed as ICC Men's T20 World Cup Brand Ambassador
The International Cricket Council (ICC), the global governing body of cricket, has appointed the legendary Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi as the brand ambassador for the upcoming 9th ICC Men's T20 World Cup. This highly anticipated tournament will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America from 1st to 29th June, 2024.
Afridi joins an esteemed group of brand ambassadors, including Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, West Indian icon Chris Gayle, and Jamaican sprinting legend Usain Bolt. Their roles will be to promote the World Cup event, attend matches, and engage with fans to promote cricket within the United States.

Kaamya Karthikeyan Became Youngest Indian to Summit Mt Everest at 16
Kaamya Karthikeyan, aged 16, became the youngest Indian to summit Mt. Everest from Nepal.
She is a student at Navy Children School in Mumbai and the daughter of naval officer Cdr S Karthikeyan.
Both Kaamya and her father reached the summit on May 20, as confirmed by the Indian Navy.
Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first to climb the Mount Everest on May 29, 1953.
Kaamya Karthikeyan, a 16-year-old class XII student at Navy Children School in Mumbai, along with her father Commodore S Karthikeyan from the Indian Navy, reached the summit of Mount Everest (8,849 metres).

Narayanan Vaghul, the Banking Doyen, Passes Away
Narayanan Vaghul, renowned banker and former Chairman of ICICI Bank, died at the age of 88 in Chennai.
A Padma Bhushan awardee, Vaghul is considered as the 'Bhishma Pitamah' of banking in the country. The processes established by him went on to become strong and sustainable practices in the Indian financial ecosystem. He has been instrumental in mentoring several powerhouses of banking talent and actively groomed more women CEOs in banking.
He joined ICICI Limited as the Chairman and CEO in 1985. Under his leadership, ICICI transformed from a development bank to the second largest commercial bank of the country.
