CRPF Valour Day

Every year on April 9, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) celebrates its Bravery Day, or Valour Day, to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who have selflessly served the nation. This year, 2024, marked the 59^th anniversary of this significant day.
The Central Reserve Police Force dates back to 1939, established as the Crown Representative's Police on July 27. Later, with the enactment of the CRPF Act on December 28, 1949, it transformed into CRPF.
The Central Reserve Police Force, functioning under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs, is India's largest central armed police force. Its primary responsibilities include maintaining law and order in the states and union territories, as well as addressing internal security threats.

Thirty IAF Bases to Get 5-layer Security System

With an aim to ensure five layers of sensor, alarm and perimeter surveillance, 30 Indian Air Force (IAF) bases across the country are set to get a state-of-the-art security system.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) invited bids from Indian companies for the Integrated Perimeter Security System (IPSS) by June 24.
The system must be capable of providing surveillance in all weather and ambient light conditions throughout the year at both day and night.
The IPSS will consist of five layers of sensors for intrusion detection — an electrical smart power fence; a CCTV with an infra-red camera and inbuilt video analytics and automatic intrusion detection capabilities; a radar; underground vibration detection system connected with a dedicated optical fibre cable; and thermal cameras that can pick up things at night.

Navy Chief inaugurates New facilities at Karwar Naval Base

Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar inaugurated a 350m long major pier for Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) and a residential accommodation at Naval Base Karwar. These infrastructure developments are part of the ongoing Phase IIA of Project Seabird, which will accommodate 32 ships and submarines, 23 yardcraft, a dual-use Naval Air Station, a full fledged naval dockyard, four covered dry berths and logistics for ships and aircraft.
The Pier 3 OPV Pier is 350m long, capable of berthing OPVs, large survey vessels and mine counter measure vessels. The pier would also provide various shore-based services, such as electrical power, potable water, chilled water for air conditioning, 30 tonnes mobile crane and other domestic services to the ships.
The residential accommodation consists of two towers of 80 flats for married officers and 149 flats of single officers accommodation along with related amenities and external services. Further, six towers of Type-II accommodation consisting of 360 flats for Defence civilians were also inaugurated.

IPS Officer Love Kumar Appointed as IG in Special Protection Group

Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Love Kumar was appointed as the Inspector General (IG) in the Special Protection Group (SPG) for a period of two years. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved this proposal from the Office of the Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat.
Love Kumar is a 2004-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
Alongside Love Kumar's appointment, the DoPT notification also stated that Umesh Chander Datta (IPS) was appointed as IG in the SPG for a period of two years from the date of assuming the charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The Special Protection Group (SPG) is a special force in India responsible for providing security to the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers, and their immediate families. The appointments of Love Kumar and Umesh Chander Datta as IGs in the SPG are aimed at strengthening the group's leadership and enhancing its overall effectiveness in fulfilling its critical security mandate.

CDS Chair Maiden Tri-service Conference on Jointness, Integration

Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, chaired the maiden 'Parivartan Chintan', a Tri-Service Conference on jointness and integration in New Delhi.
The day-long conference aimed at generating new and fresh ideas, initiatives and reforms to propel jointness and integration efforts.
With the Indian Armed Forces embarked on a major transformative change in their quest to be ready for the envisaged future wars, initiatives are being undertaken to promote jointness and integration as structures are modified to enable Tri-Service multi-domain operations.
The 'Parivartan Chintan' was be the first-ever conference of the Heads of all Tri-Services Institutions, the Department of Military Affairs, Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and the three Services, with officers from varied service brackets, through their diverse understanding and experience, recommended measures to achieve the desired "Joint and Integrated" end state with celerity.

Navy Chief Awards Unit Citation to INS Sharda for Anti-piracy Operations

Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar awarded an 'On-the-spot Unit Citation' to INS Sharda for successful conduct of anti-piracy operations at sea.
The ship was involved in the safe release of all 19 crew members (11 Iranian and 8 Pakistani) of Iranian fishing vessel 'Omari' which was held hostage by pirates off the east coast of Somalia, the Indian Navy said in a statement issued by its spokesperson.
Admiral Kumar, during his visit to Southern Naval Command, Kochi, awarded the 'On-the-spot Unit Citation' to INS Sharda.
The ship was tasked to investigate the Iranian fishing vessel "Omari" that was likely hijacked by pirates.

Enhancing Air Defence Capabilities: Indian Army Inducts Akashteer System

The Indian Army commenced the induction of the indigenous Akashteer system, marking a significant advancement in its air defence capabilities. This automated air defence control and reporting system, developed by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), aims to integrate the army's air defence units for enhanced operational efficiency.
The induction of Akashteer aligns with the Indian Army's "Year of Tech Absorption," reflecting a crucial milestone in its path towards transformation. This system not only meets current requirements but also addresses futuristic needs for complex air defence operations.
Akashteer's deployment will enable the army to monitor low-level airspace over battle areas effectively. By controlling ground-based air defence weapon systems, it enhances operational efficiency, swift engagement of hostile targets, and reduces the risk of fratricide while ensuring the safety of friendly aircraft in contested airspace.

India's First Homegrown Stealth Frigate Coming 2025

A major step towards self-reliance in India's defence sector is on the horizon, as Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) prepares to deliver the first of its indigenously built Project-17 Alpha (P-17A) stealth frigates. Named 'Mahendragiri', this advanced warship is expected to join the Indian Navy's fleet by August 2025.
Packed with cutting-edge features like advanced weapons, sensors, an action information system, and an integrated platform management system, the P-17A frigates surpass their predecessors, the Project 17 (Shivalik Class) frigates, in stealth, weaponry, and sensor technology.
