Nepal Celebrates Rice Plantation Day

Monsoon arrives in Kathmandu Valley today and farmers are celebrating Rice Plantation Day by actively showing saplings in their farmlands. Celebrating Dhan Diwas or Rice Plantation day, Alternate Energy Promotion Center, organised a discussion program today to show the integration of renewable energy in the agriculture sector to increase benefits from farming.
The government of Nepal has prioritised agriculture sector as one of the national priority sectors and energy is one of the key drivers for increasing agri yield. There is the adoption of modern agricultural technologies such as efficient solar based irrigation techniques, and energy efficient mechanisation to increase productivity and resilience to climate change.

National Chartered Accountant (CA) Day 2024

National Chartered Accountant Day, also known as CA Day, is an annual celebration in India that recognises the crucial role of chartered accountants in the country's economic landscape. CA Day is observed on July 1st every year. In 2024, it will fall on a Monday, marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

International Asteroid Day

International Asteroid Day, observed annually on June 30, commemorates the largest asteroid impact in recorded history, the Tunguska event in Siberia, Russia. This day, sanctioned by the United Nations, aims to raise public awareness about the potential hazards asteroids can pose to our planet and the importance of monitoring and defending against them.
In December 2016, the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution A/RES/71/90 proclaiming June 30 as International Asteroid Day to commemorate the Tunguska impact over Siberia, Russian Federation, on June 30, 1908, and to raise awareness about the risks of asteroids on a global scale.
The theme for International Asteroid Day in 2024 is "Guardians of Our Planet: The Role of Asteroids in Earth's History and Future." This theme emphasizes the dual nature of asteroids as both bearers of resources that may have seeded life on Earth, and as potential threats that could pose significant risks to our planet.

International Day of Parliamentarism

The International Day of Parliamentarism is celebrated every year on June 30, the date in 1889 on which the IPU was founded. The Day was established in 2018 through a United Nations General Assembly Resolution.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), established in 1889, holds the distinction of being the first political multilateral organization aimed at fostering international cooperation and resolving conflicts through dialogue rather than warfare. Throughout its history, the IPU has been a pivotal platform for parliamentary diplomacy, enabling nations to engage in meaningful conversations and mediation.

International Day of the Tropics

On June 29 each year, we observe the International Day of the Tropics, a celebration that highlights the unique characteristics of tropical regions. This annual event serves as a platform to explore the rich diversity found in these areas, while also addressing the specific challenges and opportunities they encounter.
The first 'State of the Tropics Report' was published on June 29, 2014, representing a collaborative effort among a dozen prominent research institutions focusing on tropical regions. This groundbreaking report provided a fresh and distinctive outlook on an area of growing global importance. A follow-up report was released in 2020, continuing to shed light on tropical issues.
In recognition of the original report's significance, the UN General Assembly took action in 2016 and passed resolution A/RES/70/267, which established June 29 as the annual International Day of the Tropics. This decision was made to commemorate the anniversary of the initial report's release and to ensure ongoing attention to tropical matters on a global scale.

National Statistics Day

National Statistics Day is celebrated on June 29 every year to recognize the contributions of P. C. Mahanalobis. It is not be confused with World Statistics Day, which is a UN-designated day and is celebrated on October 20.
The Indian government designated June 29 as National Statistics Day in recognition of the contributions made by Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the fields of statistics and economic planning on June 5, 2007. The first National Statistics Day was celebrated on June 29, 2007 and it has been celebrated on the same day since then.
Professor Mahalanobis was part of the first planning commission of India and was instrumental in establishing the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in 1931.

International Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Day

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) established International Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Day is observed on June 27.
In its 74th Plenary on April 6, 2017, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 27 as Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises Day, recognising MSMEs' importance in achieving sustainable development goals and encouraging innovation, creativity, and job sustainability for all.
This year's (2024) theme for this day is 'Leveraging Power and Resilience of Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to Accelerate Sustainable Development and Eradicate Poverty in Times of Multiple Crises.' This theme recognizes the potential of MSMEs to drive progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, is marked on June 26 every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.
International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a United Nations observation that takes place internationally. On this day, the agenda is to advocate against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. It has been observed annually since 1989. The date June 26 commemorates Lin Zexu's dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong. This incident took place on June 25, 1839, just a few days before the First Opium War in China. The United Nations instituted the observation on December 7, 1987.
The theme for International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2024 is 'The evidence is clear: invest in prevention'.

International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

The UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is observed on June 26 to commemorate the day in 1987 when the UN Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment came into force. This convention is a crucial instrument in the global fight against torture.
The Torture Agreement, officially known as the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, came into effect on June 26, 1987. This marked an important milestone in recognizing the universal prohibition of torture. A decade later, on June 26, 1997, the United Nations General Assembly officially designated this date as the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.
