  • Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Army Training Command, conferred the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Army Training Command Unit Appreciation, Financial Excellence Awards and Technical Excellence Awards to premier training institutes for their noteworthy performance in 2022-23.

DRDO & Indian Army Conducted Successful Trials of MPATGM Weapon System

  • DRDO and the Indian Army have successfully conducted trail of the indigenous Man Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile System.
  • The system consisted of the MPATGM, Launcher, Target Acquisition System, and the Fire Control Unit.
  • The Warhead Flight Trials were successfully conducted at the Pokhran Field Firing Range, Rajasthan.
  • Adequate number of missile firing trials have been successfully conducted towards achieving compliance of complete operational envelop as stipulated in the General Staff Qualitative Requirements (Infantry, Indian Army). The Warhead Flight Trials were successfully conducted at the Pokhran Field Firing Range, Rajasthan. Missile performance and warhead performance were found to be remarkable.

India Expands Strategic Presence; to have Defence Attaches in more Countries in Africa, Asia

  • For the first time, India will post defence attaches in several countries including Ethiopia, Mozambique, Ivory Coast, Philippines, Armenia and Poland in line with its broader policy initiative to expand strategic ties with key regions, a move that came amid renewed geopolitical rivalries. New Delhi is also appointing a new defence attache to the tiny African nation of Djibouti that serves as a major maritime gateway around the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, and is considered as a prized location for military bases.
  • The new defence attache in Djibouti will be the second one to hold the post in the island nation.
  • It is also learnt that New Delhi is planning to rationalise the strength of its teams of military officials in its embassy in Moscow and high commission in London.

India-Uzbekistan Joint Military Exercise Dustlik (14)

  • The fifth edition of India-Uzbekistan Joint Military Exercise Dustlik will commence at Termez District in Uzbekistan from April 15 onwards.
  • Participating contingents from the Indian Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan will undergo joint training sessions during the exercise.
  • The fourth edition of the joint military exercise between the Indian Army and Uzbekistan Army was held on February 20 last year at the Foreign Training Node, Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand.

Indian Army's Trishakti Corps Conducts Anti-Tank Guided Missile Firing Exercise in Sikkim

  • Trishakti Corps, Indian Army, conducted a training exercise on Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) firing at a super high altitude area of 17,000 feet in Sikkim.
  • Missile Firing Detachments from mechanized and infantry units of the entire Eastern Command participated in the training exercise.
  • The training exercise encompassed comprehensive continuity training and live firing from different platforms on moving as well as static targets, depicting battlefield conditions.
  • The ATGM system's performance in high-altitude environments reaffirmed the aim of "Ek Missile Ek Tank" and showcased the accuracy and effectiveness of the ATGM system in super high altitude terrain.

China Helping Russia in Large Scale Military Manufacturing amid Ukraine War

  • Amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, China is helping Russia ramp up its defence industrial base at such a large scale that Moscow is now undertaking its most ambitious expansion in military manufacturing since the Soviet era, CNN reported, citing senior Biden administration officials.
  • One of the official claimed that the Chinese and Russian entitles have also been working jointly to produce drones inside of Russia. The support from China is having a significant impact on Russia's ability to continue its assault on Ukraine, while Ukraine's military has been plagued with equipment and weapon shortages.

India-Kazakhstan to Enhance Counter-Terror Cooperation in Response to Moscow Attacks

  • In the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Moscow, believed to be perpetrated by extremists from Central Asia potentially influenced by Pakistani seminaries, India and Kazakhstan convened in Astana to bolster their collaboration against terrorism.
  • Both nations engaged in discussions regarding the terrorist landscape within their respective regions. This included addressing state-sponsored terrorism and cross-border terrorist activities, particularly prevalent in South Asia.
  • The meeting also delved into the specific challenges posed by terrorism in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region. Strategies were explored to combat the growing menace in this area, which often spills over into neighboring countries.
  • Kazakhstan is the world's largest landlocked country, located in Central Asia, bordered by Russia to the north, China to the east, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan to the south, and the Caspian Sea to the west.
