Lovlina Borgohain Loses to Li Qian, Clinches Silver in Grand Prix

Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain lost to China's Li Qian to settle for the silver medal in the women's 75kg contest at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in the Czech Republic. The Paris Olympics-bound Borgohain lost by a 2-3 split verdict against the reigning Asian Games champion. Qian, who is a two-time Olympics medallist and has a three World Championships medals, had defeated Borgohain in the summit clash of the Asian Games last year.
Ganemat Sekhon, Sheeraz Sheikh and Anantjeet Singh Naruka stayed in the hunt for medals after the fourth and penultimate round of qualification at the ongoing ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Lonato, Italy. Ganemat shot rounds of 25 and 23 for a two-day total of 95 (25,22,25,23), which put her in ninth spot in women's skeet. In men's skeet, both Sheeraz and Anantjeet have tallied 97 after four rounds and are just two hits off the pace.

Olympics Qualifier: Bhajan Kaur Seals Paris Quota with Gold

Bhajan Kaur clinched India an Olympics quota in style, winning a gold medal at the 'Archery in Paris Final Olympic Qualifier'. The inexperienced Bhajan grabbed the limelight by stunning top seed Mobina Fallah of Iran without dropping a set to clinch the women's individual recurve gold. The third seed showed exceptional shooting to go all the way, winning 6-2 (28-26, 29-29, 29-26, 29-29) in a one-sided final.
Her teammate Ankita Bhakat made a quarterfinal exit, but she also secured an Olympics quota by virtue of that last-eight entry. The individual quotas are allotted to the top-eight nations. Each country gets one individual quota. India thus have secured individual quotas in both men's and women's sections. Dhiraj Bommadevara had secured the men's individual quota from the Asian qualifying leg earlier.

Ariarne Titmus Sets World Record in Women's 200m Freestyle

Ariarne Titmus set a world record in the women's 200-meter freestyle at Australia's Olympic swimming trials.
Titmus finished in 1 minute, 52.23 seconds in the final, taking almost two-thirds of a second off Mollie O'Callaghan's world mark of 1:52.85 set at last year's (2023) world championships.
Titmus, the Olympic champion in the 200- and 400-meter freestyle events, now holds the world records in both events.

Divya Deshmukh Wins World Junior Girls' Chess Championship

Divya Deshmukh of India outclassed Bulgaria's Beloslava Krasteva and clinched the title in the World Junior Girls' Chess Championship.
With this win Divya, an International Master, ended the tournament with 10 points out of a possible 11, half-point ahead of the second-placed Mariam Mkrtchyan of Armenia at the Gift City.
The third place went to Ayan Allahverdiyeva of Azerbaijan, who scored a victory over Norman Kseniya of Russia to reach 8.5 points.

Rider Shruti 1st Indian to Win 3-star GP Event

Shruti Vora became the first Indian rider to win a three-star Grand Prix event, the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) announced.
Shruti scored 67.761 points in the CDI-3 event held in Lipica, Slovenia. The Indian finished ahead of Moldova's Tatiana Antonenco (Aachen), who scored 66.522. Austria's Juliane Jerich (Quarter Girl) completed the top-3 with a score of 66.087.

India to Host Men's Junior Hockey World Cup in 2025

The Executive Board of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) designated India as the host country for the inaugural FIH Hockey Men's Junior World Cup featuring 24 teams, set to take place in December 2025. This decision underscores FIH's commitment to expanding opportunities for National Associations and promoting diversity in the sport. FIH President Tayyab Ikram expressed enthusiasm for the expanded event format, emphasizing its significance in shaping the future of hockey.
