Bombay High Court Launches Live Streaming of its Proceedings

Chief Justice of India (CJI) B. R. Gavai launched live streaming of Bombay High Court proceedings.
The service is available for hearings/proceedings before five benches of the High Court.
The first 5 benches selected to mark the beginning of live streaming are:
1. Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sandeep V. Marne
2. Justice R. P. Mohite-Dere and Justice Dr. Neela Kedar Gokhale
3. Justice M. S. Sonak and Justice Jitendra Shantilal Jain
4. Justice Ravindra V. Ghuge and Justice M. M. Sathaye
5. Justice A. S. Gadkari and Justice Rajesh S Patil
The hearings of Gujarat High Court, Karnataka High Court, Gauhati High Court, Calcutta High Court, Telangana High Court, Orissa High Court and certain other courts are already being live streamed on YouTube.

For the First Time, SC Introduces OBC Quota for Staff Recruitment

The Supreme Court for the first time introduced reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the recruitment of its staff.
This came after the top court came out with a roster specifying the post-wise quota for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in matters of recruitment and promotion.
The Chief Justice of India, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 146 of the Constitution, amended Rule 4A of the Supreme Court Officers and Servants (Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 1961.

Centre Notifies Appointment of 2 Advocates as Additional Judges of Bombay High Court

The Union government notified the appointment of two advocates as additional judges of the Bombay High Court for two years.
The two advocates are: Gautam Ashwin Ankhad, and Mahendra Madhavrao Nerlikar. The Supreme Court collegium had recommended their names for elevation on September 2024.
The Bombay High Court has a sanctioned strength of 94 judges. With the latest two appointments cleared, the working strength has risen to 65, leaving 29 vacancies in the HC.

NLU Delhi Appoints Dr. Sidharth Luthra as KL Arora Chair Professor in Criminal Law

The National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) appointed Senior Advocate, Dr Sidharth Luthra, as the KL Arora Chair Professor in criminal law. The Chair is dedicated to fostering excellence in teaching, research, and advocacy in the field of criminal law.
The Chair was set up in 2011 by former Supreme Court Justice DP Wadhwa and has served as a platform to advance scholarly dialogue, legal education, and public engagement on critical issues in criminal justice.
Prominent scholars like Prof BB Pande, Prof K. Chockalingam, and Prof G. S. Bajpai have held the Chair earlier.

Justice N. S. Sanjay Gowda Sworn in as Gujarat High Court Judge

Justice Neranahalli Srinivasan Sanjay Gowda officially taken charge as a judge of the Gujarat High Court. Earlier serving in the Karnataka High Court, his transfer is part of the Supreme Court's plan to bring diversity and better administration across Indian High Courts.
The oath of office to Justice Gowda was administered by Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, Justice Sunita Agrawal. The event was attended by Advocate General Kamal Trivedi, senior lawyers and other important guests.

Kerala High Court Constitutes Committee to Improve Lawyer-Police Relationship

The Kerala High Court constituted a committee to suggest comprehensive guidelines to improve the relationship between lawyers and police officers in the State.
The committee set up by the Bench of Justices A. K. Jayasankarana Nambiar and PM Manoj comprises Kerala Advocate General K. Gopalakrishna Kurup, Director General of Prosecution T. A. Shaji, Senior Advocates Santhosh Mathew and S. Sreekumar and President of Kerala High Court Advocates' Association Yeshwanth Shenoy.
