Madhya Pradesh Named "Go-To Global Destination for 2025" by WSJ

Madhya Pradesh earned global recognition as one of the Wall Street Journal's "Go-To Global Destinations for 2025," showcasing its rich heritage, unique wildlife, and natural beauty. This prestigious acknowledgment builds upon the state's ongoing efforts to establish itself as a premier travel destination. With iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Khajuraho, Panna, and Bandhavgarh, as well as an array of vibrant cultural experiences, Madhya Pradesh is solidifying its position on the global tourism map.
The inclusion in the Wall Street Journal's list highlights Madhya Pradesh's appeal as a world-class destination, attracting global travelers seeking history, adventure, and stunning landscapes. Principal Secretary of Tourism, Sheo Shekhar Shukla, emphasized that this recognition further establishes the state's global tourism status.

Indore's Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport Becomes Country's First Zero-Waste Airport

In yet another achievement for Indore, the country's cleanest city in Madhya Pradesh, the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in the city officially became the first zero-waste airport in the country as Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated the massive 3000 sq ft material recovery facility.
Naidu, who inaugurated the waste segregation facility at the airport, also inaugurated the new air traffic control tower which has been built at a cost of Rs. 55 crore.
The material recovery facility boasts of a comprehensive waste management system which will recycle garbage from both the aircraft and the airport with the wet waste converted into fertilizer. The airport's zero-waste initiative is based on the 4R concept: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Restore.

India Ranks 39th in Travel and Tourism Development Index 2024

India significantly improved its position in the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024, ranking 39th among 119 countries. This marks a sharp rise from its 54th place in the previous 2021 index, which was later adjusted to 38th after a revision in WEF's methodology. The boost in India's ranking reflects a strong recovery in global tourism, following the pandemic, and the country's growing role as a hub for medical and cultural tourism.

Delhi Airport Connects to 150 Destinations, Becomes Country's First

Delhi airport operator DIAL said that the airport now provides connectivity to 150 destinations.
Thai AirAsia X launched direct flights between Delhi and Bangkok-Don Mueang (DMK), marking the 150^th destination connected to Delhi airport.
Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) also became the first airport in the country to connect 150 destinations.
Of all the long-haul destinations from India, 88 per cent of destinations are connected from Delhi and 56 per cent of all long-haul weekly flights departing from India, operate from Delhi.

Russia Offers Visa-Free Travel for Indians in 2025

Indians may soon enjoy visa-free travel to Russia as part of a new initiative expected to begin in the spring of 2025. This move follows bilateral discussions between India and Russia in June 2024, aimed at easing visa restrictions and encouraging group tourist exchanges. Currently, Indian nationals require visas to visit Russia, but the upcoming agreement could significantly streamline travel processes, boosting tourism and strengthening bilateral ties.
Russia currently offers visa-free entry to China and Iran under its group tourist exchange program.
The program has boosted tourism from these countries, prompting Russia to replicate it with India.

IIT Madras Develops Test Track for 1,100 km/h Avishkar Hyperloop

IIT Madras successfully completed a 410-meter test track for Hyperloop, marking an important milestone in India's journey towards advanced transportation systems, following Bullet Train and Hydrogen Train tests. The completion of this track was announced by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Vaishnaw praised the efforts of the Railways, the IIT Madras Avishkar Hyperloop team, and TuTr, an incubated start-up at the institute, for their contributions to the project.
Hyperloop technology is designed to revolutionise transportation by allowing pods to travel at speeds of up to 1,100 km/h. These pods will move through low-pressure tubes, creating a frictionless environment that will not only increase the speed of travel but also improve energy efficiency.
