Veteran actress Smriti Biswas died at the age of 100. The actress was best known for her work in Bengali, Hindi, and Marathi films.
Biswas made her acting debut with the 1930 Bengali film Sandhya and appeared last in the 1960 movie Model Girl.
She worked in the films of Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra, and Raj Kapoor. She also acted with Dev Anand, Kishore Kumar, Uttam Kumar, Balraj Sahni, and other notable artists in various films. Biswas retired from acting after marrying film director S. D. Narang in 1960.

Veteran Sri Lankan Politician & Tamil Leader Sampanthan Passes Away
R. Sampanthan, a veteran Sri Lankan politician and a moderate Tamil leader, who relentlessly pursued a life of peace, justice and dignity for Tamil nationals in the island nation, passed away, the Tamil National Alliance (NTA) announced. He was 91.
Sampanthan led the TNA from 2004 and became only the second Tamil to become the main opposition leader in the Sinhala-majority country.
He took office as the leader of the opposition in 2015 and was actively involved in the process of drafting a new Constitution until 2019.
A brilliant lawyer, Sampanthan entered Parliament for the first time in 1977 from the eastern port district of Trincomalee.

Muchkund Dubey Former Foreign Secretary Dies
Former foreign secretary Muchkund Dubey died aged 90.
The veteran diplomat, considered an expert on disarmament and development cooperation, served as India's foreign secretary in 1990-91. He also served as India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh and Permanent Representative to UN Organisations in Geneva.
After retiring, he joined the JNU as a professor where he taught for close to eight years. Dubey also served as the president of New Delhi-based Council for Social Development (CSD).
