Government of India and Asian Development Bank Sign $500 Million Loan
The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $500 million loan to support green and sustainable infrastructure projects aligned with the country's climate commitments on 20th December 2024. The ADB loan, with a sovereign guarantee, will be extended to the India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited (IIFCL).
The signatories to the Financing Environmentally Sustainable Growth in Infrastructure Project were Juhi Mukherjee Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, for the Government of India, and Country Director Mio Oka for ADB.
ADB financing will help IIFCL provide long-term capital for infrastructure projects focusing on connectivity and energy transition as well as under-resourced sectors like urban projects, education, and health care.

Odisha 2nd in India for Maximum Increase in Green Cover Inside Forest Area
Odisha ranked second in the country for maximum increase in green cover inside recorded forest area, according to the latest India State of Forest Report-2023.
Published biennially by the Forest Survey of India (FSI) since 1987, the report, released by Union Forest Minister Bhupender Yadav, provides a detailed assessment of the nation's forest and tree resources.
According to the report, Odisha reported an increase of 118.17 sq km of forest inside the recorded forest area, while Mizoram was at the top position with an increase of 192.92 sq km.
Karnataka recorded an increase of 93.14 sq km of forest, West Bengal (64.79 sq km), and neighbouring Jharkhand's growth was 52.72 sq km.

Masali: India's First Border Solar Village
Masali, a village in Gujarat's Banaskantha district, became India's first 'solar village' located near the border, marking a significant achievement in the country's renewable energy initiatives. Situated 40 kilometres from the Pakistan border, this milestone follows India's broader efforts to make border areas more energy-efficient and self-sustaining. The project, with an investment of Rs. 1.16 crore, involves the installation of solar panels on 199 rooftops, ensuring 100% solar power generation for the village. The development highlights India's commitment to renewable energy and rural electrification.

India Conducts First-ever Ganges River Dolphin Tagging in Assam
India marked a historic achievement in wildlife conservation as the first-ever Ganges River Dolphin (Platanista gangetica) was tagged in Assam. This initiative, conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), was implemented by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in collaboration with the Assam Forest Department and Aaranyak, with funding from the National CAMPA Authority.
This is the first tagging, not only in India, but also for the species, and this milestone is a significant advancement of Project Dolphin, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Moldova Joins International Solar Alliance
Moldova joined the International Solar Alliance, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal said.
India welcomes Moldova in its efforts to promote sustainability.
The agreement was signed between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi.
A treaty-based international intergovernmental organisation, International Solar Alliance (ISA), aims at mobilising more than USD 1000 billion of investment needed by 2030 for the massive deployment of solar energy.
