26th Edition of Hornbill Festival begins in Nagaland

  • The 26th Hornbill Festival began on 1st December at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, Kohima, coinciding with Nagaland's Statehood Day. This ten-day festival brings together all major Naga tribes to celebrate their rich traditions, music, dance, crafts, and local food. Over the years, the Hornbill Festival has become one of India's most famous cultural events.

  • The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) celebrated the birth centenary of legendary Goan cinematographer K. Vaikunth, honouring his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema with the release of a commemorative postal stamp.
  • Known for his masterful cinematography across several landmark feature films and documentaries including celebrated works for the Films Division—Shri Vaikunth is remembered as one of India's finest visual storytellers whose legacy continues to inspire generations of filmmakers.
  • The commemorative postal stamp was formally released by the Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, in the presence of Shri Deepak Narain, Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Shri Prabhat, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Shri Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra & Goa and Shri Amit Kunkolienkar, son of Shri K. Vaikunth, along with his family members.

Divya Kala Mela 2025: Celebrating the Skill, Spirit & Enterprise of Divyang Artisans

  • The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, is organising a unique event 'Divya Kala Mela'—from November 15 to 23, 2025 at Lucknow University. This event aims to showcase the products and artistic skills of Divyang (PwD) entrepreneurs and artisans from across the country.
  • The National Divyangjan Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC), a premier institution under the DEPwD, is the nodal agency for the event. The Mela offers visitors a delightful experience, with captivating products from different regions of India—including Jammu & Kashmir and the North-Eastern states—such as handicrafts, handloom items, embroidery work, packaged food, and more, all available under one roof.
  • Approximately 100 Divyang artisans/artists/entrepreneurs from around 18 States/UTs are exhibiting their products and skills at this Mela. The major product categories on display include—home décor and lifestyle items, apparel, stationery and eco-friendly products, packaged and organic food items, toys and gift items, jewellery, clutch bags, and more. The Mela provides a wonderful opportunity for all to support 'Vocal for Local' and to witness and purchase products created with dedication by Divyang artisans.
  • The event was inaugurated by B. L. Verma, Minister of State, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. Several other distinguished guests also graced the occasion.

Bharat-Sri Lanka Sanskrit Mahotsav Inaugurated at University of Colombo

  • The week-long Bharat-Sri Lanka Sanskrit Mahotsav was inaugurated at the University of Colombo by High Commissioner of India Santosh Jha, together with Sri Lanka's Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, Madhura Senevirathna. The festival celebrates Sanskrit as the timeless language of wisdom, harmony, and knowledge.
  • High Commissioner Jha highlighted Sanskrit's enduring role in strengthening cultural links between India and Sri Lanka. Minister Dr Senevirathna commended the ongoing collaboration to preserve classical learning within modern education.
  • Jointly organised by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Sri Lanka's Ministry of Education, the Central Sanskrit University, and the India-Sri Lanka Foundation, the event brings together scholars, monks, and students from across both nations.
  • The week will include workshops, lectures, and performances underscoring Sanskrit's vitality as a shared civilisational legacy.

Kolkata International Film Festival 2025

  • The 31st Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), themed "Where Cinema Connects The World," will be held from November 6 to 13, 2025, bringing together filmmakers, artists, and cinephiles from around the globe. The city has transformed into a cinematic hub, with screenings, retrospectives, and tributes celebrating both Indian and international cinema.
  • One of the key highlights of this year's KIFF is the special tribute to the legendary Polish filmmaker Wojciech Has, marking the centenary of his birth.
