Telangana Government to Set Up Education Commission
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said that his government would soon set up an education commission to address the problems faced in this sector. Revanth Reddy, who held a meeting with several educationists, said that his government is committed to imparting quality education, skill training, and employment generation, right from Anganwadis and primary schools to universities.
The government has taken several measures, including issuing notification for recruitment of 11,000 teachers, decided to conduct teachers' eligibility test, and providing uniforms and textbooks to students on the day schools are reopened, to strengthen the education system.

UGC's ASMITA Project: 22,000 Indian Language Books to Transform Higher Education
The Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC) unveiled an ambitious project aimed at enriching the landscape of Indian language literature in higher education. This groundbreaking initiative, known as ASMITA (Augmenting Study Materials in Indian Languages through Translation and Academic Writing), sets out to develop an impressive 22,000 books in Indian languages over the next five years.
ASMITA represents a collaborative effort between the UGC and the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, a high-powered committee under the Ministry of Education. The project's primary objective is to promote Indian languages in education, addressing the long-standing need for quality academic resources in regional languages.
The project was officially launched by Sanjay Murthy, Secretary of Higher Education, marking a significant milestone in India's educational landscape. This initiative aligns closely with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP), which emphasizes the importance of multilingual education and the preservation of India's rich linguistic heritage.
IIM-Bangalore Reclaims Title as India's Top Business School: QS Executive MBA Rankings 2024
Global education analyst Quacquarelli Symonds released the 2024 edition of the QS Executive MBA Ranking, in which the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore emerged as the top business school in India.
With a global rank of 41 (an improvement of two ranks from 2023), IIM Bangalore was crowned as the best management school in the country, followed by the Indian School of Business (ISB) at the second spot. However, ISB has slipped from its last year's rank of 100 to the range of '101-110' this year.
IIM Kozhikode and Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad achieved the third and fourth rank respectively, by getting a rank in the '171-180' range. These are followed by IIM Indore and Woxsen School of Business at the fifth and sixth rank respectively, with a spot in the '181+' rank range.

Himachal Government to Launch Prestigious Awards for Teachers
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that the state government plans to introduce awards for teachers and school heads to recognise their outstanding contributions to the education sector. The initiative aims to encourage more individuals to pursue teaching careers, promote effective teaching and learning methods in schools, and elevate the status of educators within the community.
As per reports, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that 24 teachers will receive awards across two categories: general areas and tribal/hard-to-reach areas. Out of these, 15 awards will be granted to teachers in general areas, while nine will be given to those serving in tribal and hard-to-reach regions.
Teachers eligible for these special awards will include those serving in District Institutes of Education and Training, State Council of Educational Research and Training, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, according to the Chief Minister.
Asia's First Health Research "Pre-Clinical Network Facility" Inaugurated in Faridabad
Union Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated Asia's inaugural health research-related 'Pre-clinical Network Facility' in Haryana at Faridabad's Translational Health Science & Technology Institute (THSTI). This facility, selected by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), is notable as Asia's first and the 9th globally to handle BSL3 pathogens.
The facility includes one of India's largest small animal housing capacities, supporting research on immune-compromised mice and various species. Additionally, the inauguration of the "Genetically Defined Human Associated Microbial Culture Collection (Ge-HuMic) Facility" aims to foster national and international collaborations in microbial research.

India Shines at 35th International Biology Olympiad 2024 in Kazakhstan
The Indian team, which participated at the 35th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2024 achieved remarkable success, with one student winning a gold medal and three students securing silver medals.
Vedant Sakre from Mumbai, Maharashtra won a gold medal while Ishan Pednekar from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, Shrijith Sivakumar from Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Yashashwi Kumar from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh bagged a silver medal each.
The 35th IBO was held at Astana, Kazakhstan. The team was led by two distinguished leaders, Prof. Sasikumar Menon from TDM Lab, Mumbai, and Dr. Mayuri Rege from Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR and two Scientific Observers, Dr. Rajesh Patkar from IIT Bombay, and Dr. Devesh Suthar from M. IIT-Kharagpur, University of Leeds Collaborate for Joint Supervision of PhD Programmes
The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IITKGP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Leeds (UoL) to recognise the growing importance of India and a long-term partnership with the university.
