Odisha Government Signs MoU for Establishment of NMIMS University

  • The Odisha government and SVKM trust signed a Rs. 300 crore MoU to establish NMIMS University in Bhubaneswar with an aim to enhance higher education, signalling a significant stride towards educational development in the state.
  • The formalisation of the MoU took place in a ceremony held at the Lok Seva Bhawan. It was attended by Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, the Minister of Higher Education, along with other guests.

IGNOU Launches Channel-based Counselling in Manipuri Language

  • IGNOU launched a channel-based counselling initiative titled 'Swayam Prabha' in the Manipuri language. The program, organised by IGNOU in Imphal, was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh who was the chief guest.
  • The event was attended by more than 700 students, educationists, media persons, and the general public.
  • As per reports, the newly developed studios of IGNOU in Regional Centre Imphal for live transmission of Swayam Prabha transmission were also inaugurated.
  • The initiative is aimed at opening up doors of education for aspirants living in far-flung areas where conventional educational facilities are limited and people prefer to be taught in their own mother tongue.

  • The Supreme Court quashed the re-appointment of Dr. Gopinath Raveendran as the Vice Chancellor of Kannur University on the grounds that the appointment was vitiated by undue interference from the Government of Kerala.
  • The Bench of Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud, Justice J. B. Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra observed that though the notification of appointment was issued by the Chancellor in November 2021, the same was vitiated by 'unwarranted interference' by the state government.

Delhi Schools Asked to Have Minimum 220 Working Days in an Academic Year

  • A circular issued from the Directorate of Education (DoE) mandates Delhi schools to ensure a minimum of 220 working days in an academic year.
  • As per section 19 of RTE Act-2009 and National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023, it is mandatory for all the schools running under the Directorate of Education to observe the minimum 220 working days in an academic year giving consideration to the notified lists of gazetted/restricted/local holidays for the calendar year (January to December).
  • The directive specifies that before the commencement of the academic year and proceeding with the holiday periods, the heads of government schools are required to confirm the completion of 220 working days.

IIT Madras Sets up New Centre for Career Guidance Services

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras set up a new career guidance service centre at its institute to integrate all placement, internship and student career development activities. The student-run Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) of IIT Madras has also been integrated into this.
  • With the establishment of the Career Pathway Centre, the institute seeks to set up a unified platform to provide assistance to students in diverse career trajectories. This initiative, an IIT Madras statement said, is a pivotal step towards providing students with the opportunities, tools and skill set they need to succeed in the ever-evolving professional landscape.
  • The objective of Career Pathway Centre is to empower students to independently navigate and decide their career paths. It has been designed to provide students with knowledge, essential skills, and exposure to an entrepreneurial environment, all located in one facility. The Placement and Internship office facilitates students in establishing connections with companies to explore potential career prospects.

Ministry of Education Launches Third Phase of Yuva Sangam

  • The Ministry of Education initiated the third phase of Yuva Sangam, a program designed under the 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' initiative. This phase involves a delegation of 50 students from various parts of Madhya Pradesh embarking on a cultural-cum-educational tour to West Bengal.
  • Yuva Sangam aims to foster experiential learning and introduce youth to the rich diversity of India. IIT-Madras to Counsel BTech Students, Parents Before Admission

  • In a bid to mitigate stress among students and prevent suicides, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras decided to start counselling parents and assessing mental health of students during the admission process.

Bihar to Launch 'Mission Daksh' for Nearly 25 Lakh Academically Weak School Children

  • The Bihar government will launch a programme, 'Mission Daksh', in December for nearly 25 lakh children lagging woefully behind their peers in schools with some of them incapable of reading simple Hindi words despite having reached upper primary classes.
  • As part of the programme, 'Mission Daksh', the state Education Department has directed teachers to intensively mentor such students, in batches of not more than five, with the warning that any laxity will cause them to face action.
