ESIC Launches SPREE 2025 to Expand Social Security Coverage for Workers

  • The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) launched SPREE 2025 (Scheme for Promotion of Registration of Employers and Employees). The initiative was approved during ESIC's 196th Corporation Meeting held in Shimla under the chairmanship of Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
  • SPREE 2025 is being implemented from July 1 to December 31, 2025, and offers a one-time opportunity for unregistered employers and workers—including contractual and temporary staff—to enrol under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) scheme without facing penalties or retrospective inspections.

Bihar Launches Mukhya Mantri Pratigya Scheme

  • The Bihar government launched the 'Mukhya Mantri Pratigya' scheme to provide financial support to youths for carrying out internship programmes after clearing their class 12 board examination.
  • The decision to launch the paid internship program, which aims to address youth unemployment and enhance industry readiness among students, was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
  • Under the scheme, youths aged between 18 and 28, having either trained under skill development programme or those who have passed Class 12 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) diploma, graduate and post-graduate will get financial support for availing internship training.

Cabinet Nod for ELI Scheme to Create over 3.5 crore Jobs

  • The Union Cabinet gave its nod to the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme aimed at encouraging large-scale job creation and strengthening social security for the country's workforce.
  • The ELI Scheme, which was announced in the Union Budget 2024–25 as part of the Prime Minister's package of five schemes for youth employment and skilling, has a total budget outlay of Rs. 99,446 crore.
  • The scheme comprises two key components. Under the first component, first-time employees registered with the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will receive a direct incentive equivalent to one month's wage, capped at Rs. 15,000, paid in two instalments.
  • The second component focuses on incentivising employers to create additional jobs across sectors, with added benefits for the manufacturing industry.

Over 39,000 Youths in Yadgir Receive Rs. 11.70 Lakh Under Yuva Nidhi Scheme

  • In a big relief to job-seeking graduates, the Yuva Nidhi scheme disbursed Rs. 11.70 lakh as unemployment allowance to 39,132 youths in Yadgir district, Karnataka. The scheme, aimed at empowering unemployed graduates and diploma holders, transfers funds directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

DU Launches JAIHIND Scheme to Empower ST Students with Digital & Higher Ed Skills

  • Delhi University launched the JAIHIND (Janajati Immersive Holistic Intervention for Novel Development) scheme aimed at equipping Scheduled Tribe (ST) students from across India with basic computer skills and guidance for higher education, particularly focusing on preparing them for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). The initiative is designed to support school students from Classes 9 to 12, especially those from remote tribal regions, by addressing their digital and academic barriers to college access.

Govt Launches Rs. 3000 FASTag Annual Pass for Private Vehicles

  • In a significant move aimed at easing toll payments and enhancing highway travel convenience, the Government of India has launched a FASTag-based Annual Pass for Rs. 3,000, exclusively for private vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans. 
  • Starting August 15, 2025, this scheme allows up to 200 trips or one year of travel, whichever comes first, and is designed to reduce costs, eliminate disputes at toll booths, and promote seamless, digital-first toll collection across National Highways.
  • Union Minister Nitin Gadkari officially announced via social media the launch of the FASTag Annual Pass.
  • The scheme addresses persistent issues like toll plazas placed within 60 km proximity, frequent toll disputes, and congestion. 
  • By offering a single upfront payment for regular commuters, this initiative reflects the government's commitment to digital mobility, transparency, and ease of travel on Indian highways.
