Cambodia Backs Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative at COP30

Cambodia formally joined the growing coalition of countries calling for a global Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, marking a key moment at COP30 in Belem, Brazil. The move strengthens international pressure to include a fossil fuel phase-out roadmap in the summit's final text.
During a high-level meeting, Cambodia declared its support for the proposed treaty, bringing the number of formal supporters to eighteen. Several other nations remain observers. Cambodia emphasised that developing countries will require technology transfer, climate finance and capacity-building support to carry out a fair energy transition.

India Re-Elected to Codex Executive Committee

At the 48^th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission in Rome, Italy, India reaffirmed its leadership in global food safety and trade governance by being unanimously re-elected to the Codex Executive Committee (CCEXEC) for the Asia region. This re-election secures India's position in the global food standard-setting process until 2027 and highlights its growing influence in international health and trade policy.
India's re-election as Member Asia to the Codex Executive Committee was a unanimous decision by the global membership, marking a significant endorsement of its collaborative and technical leadership. This enables India to represent Asian interests in future food standard discussions and ensure balanced participation in Codex's decision-making process.

Sheikh Hasina Sentenced to Death

The political landscape of Bangladesh was shaken by a historic verdict delivered by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT). Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, ousted after a massive student uprising that led to the fall of her government, was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity. The trial, conducted in Hasina's absence, drew criticism and allegations of political vendetta.
The ICT announced the death sentence after months of proceedings. The charges centred around alleged crimes against humanity committed during the unrest preceding her ouster.

The DRC government said that the new framework aims to create, in the shortest time possible, the conditions for a real and measurable change for the people.

Fortune World's Best Workplaces 2025

Sixteen of the 25 companies recognised in the Fortune World's Best Workplaces 2025 list have operations in India. The list compiled by Great Place To Work, the research partner of Fortune, is based on more than 9 million survey responses representing the experiences of over 25 million workers around the globe.
The list highlights large organisations with more than 5,000 employees that demonstrated consistency in employee trust, workplace fairness, and collaboration across multiple countries. Companies needed to appear on at least five regional Best Workplaces lists to qualify.
This year's (2025) recognised organisations include multinationals from hospitality, technology, healthcare, financial services, and manufacturing.

Thai King Becomes Country's First Monarch to Visit China

Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn arrived in Beijing, becoming the first reigning Thai monarch to make a state visit to China, in what analysts say is a sign of the Asian giant's increasing influence on his kingdom.
A constitutional monarchy since 1932, Thailand has used royal visits as foreign policy tools, including two U.S. trips by King Vajiralongkorn's father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, during the height of the Cold War in the 1960s.
The visit was at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping to celebrate the 50^th anniversary of both countries establishing diplomatic ties for the first time in 1975.
