World Vegan Day

  • World Vegan Day has been celebrated annually on November 1 since its inception in 1994 when 'The Vegan Society' was established in England. The day was initially created to mark the 50th anniversary of the Vegan Society and to draw attention to the growing recognition of the term 'vegan' in the English language. Over the years, it has evolved into a global platform for promoting the vegan lifestyle and its associated benefits.

Haryana Day

  • Haryana Day, an annual cultural festival observed on November 1, holds a special place in the festive calendar of the state of Haryana. It is one of several celebrations that keep the spirit of festivity alive in Haryana throughout the year. This festival commemorates the historic moment in 1966 when Haryana was officially separated from Punjab as an independent state. Haryana Day is marked by a series of vibrant events and activities that bring the entire state together in celebration.
  • In April 1966, the Indian government established the Shah Commission to review the status of Punjab and determine the boundaries for the new state of Haryana, taking into account the linguistic preferences of the local population. The commission unveiled its recommendations at the end of May 1966, leading to the formation of the state of Haryana on 1 November 1966.

World Cities Day

  • World Cities Day, celebrated annually on October 31, spotlights the successes of urbanisation and addresses the challenges arising from rapid urban growth. 
  • World Cities Day was formally recognised by UN General Assembly Resolution 68/239 in 2013, with the first celebration occurring in 2014 in Shanghai, China.
  • The theme for World Cities Day 2024 is 'Youth leading climate and local action for cities.' This theme emphasises the role of young people in driving climate action and shaping urban futures.

Vigilance Awareness Week

  • Vigilance Awareness Week is an initiative by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to combat corruption in India through awareness, education, and active participation of citizens. This week-long observance serves to strengthen ethics and transparency within governance and public administration.
  • The Vigilance Awareness Week 2024 is being observed from October 28 to November 3, 2024 under the theme 'Culture of Integrity for Nation's Prosperity.'
  • CVC is an apex vigilance institution that exercises superintendence over the vigilance administration of the organizations where the executive powers of the Government of India extends.
  • It is an apex Integrity Institution, having complete independence and autonomy in its functions.
  • The CVC was set up through the Resolution of the Government of India on the recommendations of the Committee on Prevention of Corruption formed under the Chairmanship of Shri K. Santhanam in 1964.
  • It was given statutory status through CVC Act 2003.
  • The CVC is not controlled by any Ministry/Department. It is responsible to the Parliament.

International Animation Day
