Benjamin Franklin Day

  • Benjamin Franklin Day is celebrated on January 17 every year, to pay tribute to one of the greatest Founding Fathers of the U.S. on the anniversary of his birth. Franklin was a notable polymath of his time. He was a poet, politician, scientist, writer, diplomat, statesman, political philosopher, printer, publisher, and inventor. He is best known for co-drafting the Declaration of Independence. He is also one of the most important founding figures of America. He is also the only Founding Father who signed all four key documents that laid the foundation for the U.S.

Pune to Host Army Day Parade 2025

  • The Army Day Parade, event in India's military calendar, will take place in Pune for the first time on 15 January 2025. This parade commemorates the appointment of Field Marshal K M Cariappa as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. The event, which traditionally occurs in Delhi, has been rotating to different cities since 2023, enhancing local engagement with the Armed Forces. Pune's selection puts stress on its historical connection to the military, being home to the Southern Command Headquarters and the National Defence Academy.
  • Indian Army Day is celebrated annually on 15 January. This date marks the founding of the Indian Army and the transfer of military leadership to Indian hands post-independence. Originally observed on 1 April 1895, the date was changed to honour the contributions and sacrifices of soldiers. The day aims to instil patriotism and respect for the armed forces among citizens.

Indian Army Day

  • Indian Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year. It was on this date in 1949, the Indian Army got its first Army Chief General KM Cariappa. General (later Field Marshal) Cariappa was appointed as Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army on January 15, 1949. He was the first Indian to be appointed as Commander-in-Chief. He took over the reins of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India. Cariappa remains one of only two Indian Army officers to hold the Five-star rank of Field Marshal; the other being Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Cariappa led Indian forces on the Western Front during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947.
  • This year (2025) marked the 77th Indian Army Day celebration, embodying this year's (2025) theme, "Samarth Bharat, Saksham Sena" (Capable India, Competent Army).
  • Indian Army Day is a tribute to the unwavering courage and sacrifices of the soldiers who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation. It serves as a reminder of their valour and inspires every Indian to embrace a sense of patriotism and unity.

National Youth Day

  • January 12 marks the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, and is celebrated as National Youth Day.
  • Vivekananda was Ramakrishna Paramhansa's chief disciple in the 19th century. He founded the Ramakrishna Math, a monastic order in Kolkata based on his guru's teachings, and the Ramakrishna Mission, a global spiritual movement based on Vedanta, an ancient Hindu philosophy.
  • In 1984, the government of India chose to observe Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary to the world as the National Youth Day. Since then, the day has been observed annually to promote Swami Vivekananda's ideas, teachings, and way of life among young people.

World Hindi Day

  • World Hindi Day, observed on January 10 each year, celebrates the global significance and widespread use of the Hindi language. Initiated in 2006 by the Government of India, the day marks the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference held in Nagpur, India, in 1975.
