World Teachers' Day

  • World Teachers' Day is observed every year on October 5 to honour teachers and to reflect on the support and conditions they need to do their work well. The date is recognised and observed formally by UNESCO and its partners.
  • Established in 1994, it commemorates the signing of recommendation by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
  • World Teachers' Day 2025 was dedicated to the theme 'Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession'.

World Animal Day 2025

  • World Animal Day is observed every year on October 4th. In 2025, offering a perfect opportunity for individuals and groups to organise awareness campaigns. The theme for 2025 is "Save Animals, Save the Planet!" commemorating the 100th anniversary of the day. The theme emphasizes how saving animal lives favors a healthier, sustainable world.
  • The inaugural World Animal Day was organized in 1925 by Heinrich Zimmermann, a German novelist and campaigner. Zimmermann aimed to advance animal rights and galvanize worldwide action. The event originally occurred on March 24 in Berlin and was attended by more than 5,000 individuals. By 1929, the date moved to October 4, aligning with St. Francis of Assisi's feast day, a patron known for his love of animals. Over decades, the day has grown into a worldwide movement supported by governments, NGOs, and concerned citizens.

Gandhi Jyanti and Lal Bahadur shastri Jyanti 2025

  • Gandhi Jayanti, observed annually on October 2, commemorates the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation and one of India's most esteemed leaders. On this day, we gather to celebrate the life and legacy of this magnificent person who stood up for the values of honesty, nonviolence, and independence.
  • His principles and teachings have inspired generations of people not just in India but also all around the world, serving as a testament to nonviolent protest and a steadfast dedication to justice.
  • Every year on October 2nd, India not only celebrates the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi but also honours another great leader—Lal Bahadur Shastri, the nation's third Prime Minister. Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti is a day of remembrance and reverence for a man who embodied simplicity, integrity, and dedication to the country. 
  • His tenure as Prime Minister, though brief, left a lasting impact on India's history, most notably with the inspiring slogan "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan," which rallied both soldiers and farmers during a pivotal time in the nation's growth.

International Day of Older Persons 2025

  • Every year on 1st October, the world observes the International Day of Older Persons, as designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1990 (resolution 45/106). The day aims to highlight the importance of older persons in society and the need to protect their rights, dignity, and well-being.
  • In 2025, the theme is "Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being and Our Rights", emphasizing that older persons are not just passive recipients of care but active drivers of social, economic, and cultural progress.

Telugu Language Day Celebrated in Saudi Arabia

  • The Telugu Language Day celebrated in Saudi Arabia with a 'P4' (Public-Private-People Partnership) awareness programme, organised by the Saudi Arabia Telugu Association (SATA) in collaboration with the TDP NRI Committee.
  • Kondapalli Srinivas, Minister for MSME & SERP, addressed the gathering via zoom call. The guests highlighted the P4 model being promoted by the Andhra Pradesh government, which was aimed at achieving zero poverty by 2047.
  • Over 2,000 attendees learned how P4 drives social and economic empowerment. More than 100 NRIs registered their support to the vulnerable families, and prominent among them included Dr. Vemuri Ravi and Dr. P. Krishnamohan, who emphasised the collaborative approach to uplift communities.

International Translation Day 2025

  • International Translation Day is observed every year on 30th September globally. The day is an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role in bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to development and strengthening world peace and security. 
  • In 2017, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on the role of language professionals in connecting nations and fostering peace, understanding and development, and declared 30th September as International Translation Day. 30th September is the day to celebrate the feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator, who is considered the patron saint of translators.
