Indian Historical Records Commission Unveils New Logo and Motto

The Indian Historical Records Commission (IHRC) is an apex advisory body on archival matters in India. Established in 1919, the IHRC serves as a national forum for creators, custodians, and users of records, advising the Government of India on the management of records and their use for historical research. The IHRC is headed by the Union Minister of Culture.
To visually communicate the unique identity and ethos of the IHRC, an online competition was launched in 2023 on the MyGov portal. From a total of 436 entries, the following design by Shaurya Pratap Singh (Delhi) was selected as the new logo and motto:
Logo: The lotus petal-shaped pages represent the IHRC as the resilient nodal institution for maintaining historical records.
The Sarnath pillar in the middle symbolises India's glorious past.
The brown color theme reinforces the organisation's mission of preserving and honoring India's historical records.
Motto: "Yatra Bhavishyatah Itihaas Rakshitah" (Where history is preserved for the future)
The motto holds great significance for the IHRC and its work, reflecting the Commission's commitment to ensuring the safeguarding of historical documents and making them accessible for the benefit of present and future generations.
The new logo and motto effectively capture the essence of the IHRC's role in identifying, collecting, cataloguing, and maintaining historical documents, manuscripts, and other sources of historical information. By doing so, the Commission ensures that valuable historical knowledge is conserved for future generations.

NCP(SP) Manifesto: Rs. 1 lakh/year Dole to Poor Women, Jobless Youth, Minimum Wage Hike

The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) unveiled its manifesto, favouring caste census and promising a separate commission for farmers' welfare, right to apprenticeship, 50 per cent reservation for women in jobs.
Sharad Pawar, along with state President Jayant Patil and other senior functionaries disclosed the salient aspects of the Manifesto, which include an aid of Rs. 1 lakh per year to a woman from all the poor families in the country under the Mahalakshmi Scheme, and help make crores of women as 'lakhpatis'.
As per the manifesto, titled 'Shapatnama', the NCP (SP) will review and propose changes to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register for Citizens (NRC), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other laws "conflicting" with the constitutional principles.

India's Largest Climate Clock Unveiled at CSIR HQ for Earth Day Celebration

In celebration of Earth Day, the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) unveiled India's largest Climate Clock at its headquarters in New Delhi. This initiative underscores CSIR's commitment to raising awareness about climate change and its adverse impacts.
CSIR was founded in 1942 by the Government of India with the primary goal of fostering scientific research and industrial development within the nation.
Operating as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Science and Technology, CSIR comprises 38 national laboratories, 39 outreach centers, 3 Innovation Complexes, and 5 units dispersed across India.

Mission ISHAN, India's Push for 'One Nation, One Airspace', Will Benefit Airlines & Passengers Alike

India has initiated the process of consolidating its four airspace regions into a single entity spanning the entire nation, in order to refine and strengthen air traffic management (ATM).
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has called for expressions of interest to prepare a detailed project report for the Indian Single Sky Harmonized Air Traffic Management (ISHAN) initiative, centered in Nagpur.
This consolidation is expected to streamline operations, enhance capacity, and alleviate congestion, benefiting both airlines and passengers.
Currently this airspace is controlled through four flight information regions (FIRs) at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, and a sub-flight information region at Guwahati.

India and Japan Discuss Developments in Areas of Disarmament, Non-proliferation

Top officials of India and Japan exchanged views on developments in the areas of disarmament and non-proliferation relating to nuclear, chemical and biological domains.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the 10^th Round of India-Japan Consultations on Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Export Control was held in Tokyo.
The two sides exchanged views on developments in the areas of disarmament and non-proliferation relating to nuclear, chemical and biological domains, outer space security, non-proliferation issues, conventional weapons and export control.
The Indian delegation was led by Muanpuii Saiawi, Joint Secretary (Disarmament and International Security Affairs), Ministry of External Affairs, while the Japanese delegation was led by Katsuro Kitagawa, Director General for Disarmament, Non-proliferation and Science Department.

Mission Ishan, India's Push for 'One Nation, One Airspace', Will Benefit Airlines & Passengers Alike

India has kickstarted the process of unifying its four airspace regions into one spanning the entire nation in order to streamline and enhance air traffic management.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI), the public entity responsible for air traffic management (ATM) services, last month invited expressions of interest (EoI) for the preparation of a detailed project report for an Indian Single Sky Harmonized Air Traffic Management at Nagpur (ISHAN).
The move is expected to benefit not just the airlines through more seamless operations and increased flight handling capacity, but also passengers by reducing congestion and flying times.
The AAI provides ATM services over Indian airspace and adjoining oceanic areas covering over 2.8 million square nautical miles, of which 1.04 million square nautical miles are continental and 1.76 million square nautical miles are oceanic.
This airspace is controlled through four flight information regions (FIRs) at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, and a sub-flight information region at Guwahati.

Shompen Tribe Casts Historic Votes in Andaman and Nicobar Elections

Members of the Shompen tribe, one of India's Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), exercised their democratic right for the first time by casting votes in the Andaman and Nicobar Lok Sabha constituency elections. This significant event marked a milestone for the indigenous community residing in the dense tropical rainforests of the Great Nicobar island.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, B. S. Jaglan, seven members of the Shompen tribe participated in the election process by casting their votes. The Shompen population, as per the 2011 Census data, stands at an estimated 229 individuals.
The overall voter turnout in the Andaman and Nicobar Lok Sabha constituency was recorded at 63.99%, slightly lower than the 65.09% turnout witnessed in the 2019 elections.

ISKCON and NSDC Collaborate for Tribal Skill Development

In a bid to empower tribal and underprivileged youth across India, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) joined forces. The partnership aims to provide vocational training to marginalised communities, initially focusing on Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.
Under this strategic partnership, short-term courses will be conducted, offering industry-recognised certifications through the Skill India Digital Hub platform. The goal is to enhance employability and provide access to both domestic and international job opportunities for the trained individuals, facilitated by NSDC International.

A First for BJP, Wins Surat Lok Sabha Seat Unopposed

A day after the nomination of the Congress candidate from Surat was rejected, the BJP's Mukesh Dalal was declared elected uncontested from the Lok Sabha seat, after the eight remaining nominees withdrew one by one.
While four of them were Independents, three belonged to little-known parties and one was a candidate of the BSP. Surat City BSP president Satish Sonavne alleged the hand of the BJP in the withdrawal of its nominee, Pyarelal Bharti.
It is rare for candidates to win uncontested in Lok Sabha elections, with only 23 such known instances before this since Independence (not counting bypolls) as per the Election Commission website.
