R. Praggnanandhaa Wins Tata Steel Chess Masters

Fixing Allegations Leads to Removal of Taekwondo Competition Director from National Games
Two days before the taekwondo competition was to start at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, the competition director was removed because of fears of alleged competition manipulation.
The Prevention of Manipulation of Competition Committee (PMC) had also received complaints that some officials of the Taekwondo Federation of India had already fixed the result in 10 of the 16 weight categories. "The asking price is Rs. 3 lakh for a gold medal, Rs. 2 lakh for silver and Rs. 1 lakh for bronze," the IOA said that it was informed.
The Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) based on strong recommendations of a three-member PMC removed T. Praveen Kumar as director of competitions. He was replaced by S. Dinesh Kumar.

Wriddhiman Saha Retires
Bengal stalwart Wriddhiman Saha retired from all forms of cricket after playing the last group-stage match of the Ranji Trophy on February 1.
Saha played 40 Test matches for India and was widely regarded as the best keeper in the country in the red-ball format. His career never took off due to his batting abilities, which were never at par with the likes of MS Dhoni, who saw an incredible rise in his stature at the same time. After Dhoni retired from Test cricket, Saha was able to fix his place in the line-up but for only a brief time as the selectors and management decided to fast-track Rishabh Pant.
Wriddhiman Saha's biggest moment perhaps came in the Indian Premier League when he hit a century in the IPL final against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2014 season. Despite Saha's century, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) was not able to win the tournament.
Saha played IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Gujarat Titans.

The exhilarating Men's Hockey India League 2024-25 season came to an end as Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers defeated Hyderabad Toofans 4-3 in the all-important final, in front of a jam-packed Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. Gonzalo Peillat and Amandeep Lakra) scored for Hyderabad Toofans while Jugraj Singh and Sam Lane found the back of the net to secure the title for the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers.
With this victory, Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers also claimed the INR 3 crore prize money, while the Hyderabad Toofans received INR 2 crore for finishing as runners-up.

Sachin Tendulkar Bestowed with BCCI's Lifetime Achievement Award
Former India captain and legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar was bestowed with BCCI's Lifetime Achievement award at the annual gala. Tendulkar, who played 664 matches for India, holds the record for the highest number of Test and ODI runs in history. However, he played only one T20I in his stellar career.
Tendulkar the recipient of the C K Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2024" who has played 200 Tests and 463 ODIs are also the highest by any player in the history of the game.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin was given a special award for his contribution to Indian cricket.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) was honoured for being the Best Association in domestic cricket. In 2024, Mumbai had won the Ranji Trophy for the 42nd time.
Govt. Approves 88-member Indian Contingent for 2025 Asian Winter Games
The Government of India approved the participation of the Indian contingent at the 9th Asian Winter Games (AWG) 2025, set to take place from February 7 to 14 in Harbin, China. A total of 88 members, including 59 athletes and 29 team officials, will represent India at the event.
This marks the first time the government is providing full financial support under the Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSF) Scheme for athletes competing in Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Figure Skating, Short Track Speed Skating, and Speed Skating (Long Track).

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed its squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 as Mohammad Rizwan leads the 15-man contingent. Fourth Mumbai Open to Kickstart from February 1
The fourth edition of the Mumbai Open was launched at the iconic Cricket Club of India.
The tournament is being organised by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) and will be held at the hard courts of the Cricket Club of India (CCI).
The WTA 125 tournament will commence on February 1 with the qualifying round, while the main draw of the event will begin on February 3 with the finals scheduled on February 9, at the Cricket Club of India.
Dream Sports Foundation Announces Second Edition of U-17 Football Championship
Dream Sports Foundation announced the second edition of their under-17 club football tournament, following the success of the first edition of the Dream Sports Championship.
Set to begin in February 2025, the championship will be hosted across six cities, featuring Regional Rounds and a National Final, providing a platform for young footballers to showcase their skills.
The 2025 tournament will introduce a girls' U-17 Championship at the National Finals, highlighting DSF's commitment to promoting diversity in grassroots sports. The tournament will also assist the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) in identifying potential youth talent for the national team.
The first phase, scheduled from February 2-8, 2025, will see matches taking place in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru.
