Vaccine to Curb Chlamydia Epidemic Decimating Koalas Approved

A vaccine which could save Australia's endangered koala population from a rampant chlamydia epidemic has been approved for rollout for the first time.
University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) scientists have spent more than a decade developing a jab to curb the spread of the disease, which has decimated wild koala populations across most of eastern Australia.
Some individual wild colonies, where infection rate can be as high as 70%, are edging closer to extinction every day.

First Photographic Record of Elusive Pallas Cat Captured at Wildlife Survey in Arunachal Pradesh

A wildlife survey conducted in Arunachal Pradesh revealed a series of rare and significant discoveries, including the first photographic evidence of the elusive Pallas's cat in the state.
The survey also recorded the presence of five other wild cat species: snow leopard, common leopard, clouded leopard, leopard cat, and marbled cat above 4,200 metres, indicating the landscape's unique wild cat diversity.

Skywatchers Witness Spectacular Total Lunar Eclipse, 'Blood Moon'

Skywatchers across the world witnessed a stunning event last night, a total lunar eclipse, also known as 'Chandra Grahan'. This lunar eclipse, which is the second one for this year, also produced a Blood Moon. The Earth's shadow started covering the lunar disc at 9:57 pm. By 11.01 pm, the Earth's shadow completely covered the moon, turning it coppery red, putting up a rare display of a Blood Moon.

Developed by students and researchers of Assam, the platform is designed as a knowledge hub and outreach tool to provide scientific resources, raise awareness, and engage both experts and local communities in vulture conservation efforts.

Odisha's Debrigarh Set to Become India's Newest Tiger Reserve

Odisha's Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is scripting one of India's most remarkable conservation success stories as it prepares to become the country's newest tiger reserve.
The 804-square-kilometre sanctuary, which received National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) approval in July 2025, has transformed from a conflict-prone area with human habitation into a thriving ecosystem that generated Rs. 5 crore in tourism revenue and attracted 85,000 visitors in 2025 alone.

Over 400 Himalayan Glacial Lakes Expanding

More than 400 glacial lakes within India are showing worrying expansion trends and demand vigorous monitoring for disaster purposes, the Central Water Commission (CWC) revealed in its latest monitoring report.
