Justice B. R. Gavai Chairs Workshop Held By Supreme Court Legal Services Committee for Panel Lawyers

  • Supreme Court judge Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai chaired the workshop.

Five Additional Judges of Allahabad High Court Made Permanent

  • The Central government on Monday cleared the appointment of five additional judges of the Allahabad High Court as permanent judges.
  • This was pursuant to a recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium on March 12.
  • The judges who have been made permanent are: (1) Justice Saurabh Srivastava; (2) Justice Om Prakash Shulda; (3) Justice Mohd. Azhar Husain Idrisi; (4) Justice Jyotsna Sharma; and (5) Justice Surendra Singh.
  • All five judges were initially recommended for appointment as permanent judges by the High Court Collegium in May last year. After the proposal was accepted by the Chief Minister and Governor of Uttar Pradesh, these names were forwarded to the Supreme Court Collegium for its consideration.

Delhi High Court Appoints Justice V. Ramasubramanian as Observer for JNUSU Polls

  • The Delhi High Court appointed former Supreme Court judge, Justice V. Ramasubramanian as observer for the upcoming Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) elections.
  • Justice Ramasubramanian will exercise oversight over the activities/functions to be discharged by the Election Committee.
  • JNUSU elections are being held after a gap of four years. The voting is scheduled on March 22 and the results will be declared on March 24.

Rohan Jaitley is Central Government Standing Counsel in Delhi High Court

  • The Central government appointed Advocate Rohan Jaitley as its Standing Counsel before the Delhi High Court. The engagements, effective immediately, were made for a tenure of three years. An order in this regard was issued by the Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India.
  • Rohan Jaitley primarily practices before the Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court. He is also the President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association. He has done his law from India and Master's in Law from Cornell University.

Advocate Bishwajit Dubey is Additional Advocate General for Chhattisgarh in Supreme Court

  • Advocate Bishwajit Dubey was appointed as an Additional Advocate General (AAG) for the State of Chhattisgarh to conduct cases before the Supreme Court.
  • He is a 2004 graduate of National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU).
  • With over 19 years of experience in advisory, litigation and arbitration, Dubey is an expert in corporate commercial matters including those on insolvency law, white collar crime, intellectual property and product liability, amongst others.

India and Singapore Sign Memorandum of Understanding on Law and Dispute Resolution

  • India and Singapore solidified their cooperation in the realm of law and dispute resolution through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by Singapore's Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Second Minister for Law Edwin Tong SC and India's Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal.
  • This agreement aims to bolster collaboration in areas such as international commercial dispute resolution.
