President Unveils New Flag & Insignia of Supreme Court to Mark Its 75th Year

The President of India Droupadi Murmu unveiled the new flag and insignia of the Supreme Court of India to commemorate its 75th year.
The new flag and the insignia, symbolising justice and democracy, were conceptualised by the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. The flag features the Ashok Chakra, the Inconic Supreme Court building and the book of the Constitution.

Supreme Court judge Hima Kohli, a Fierce Protector of Women's Rights Retires

Justice Hima Kohli, who served as a Supreme Court judge for three years, retired on September 1.
Justice Kohli was elevated to the Supreme Court on August 21, 2021. Before that, she was elevated as the first woman Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court after being elevated from the Delhi High Court.
Paying his tribute to Justice Kohli, Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud hailed her as a 'fierce protector of the rights of women'.
As Justice Hima Kohli vacated her space, the Supreme Court is now left with only two women judges- Justices B. V. Nagarathna and Bela M. Trivedi.

Collegium Recommends Transfer of Justice Shamim Ahmed from Allahabad High Court to Madras High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the transfer of Allahabad High Court Judge JustIce Shamim Ahmed to Madras High Court.
The Collegium comprising the Chief Justice of India (CJI) D. Y. Chandrachud and Justices Sanjiv Khanna, B. R. Gavai, Surya Kant and Hrishikesh Roy rejected Justice Ahmed's request for a reconsideration of the proposal for his transfer to the Madras High Court.
The Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court and the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court were also consulted, as per the resolution.
Justice Ahmed was appointed an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on December 12, 2019, and made a permanent High Court judge on March 26, 2021. Before his elevation, he had been practicing as lawyer since 1993, dealing with civil, Constitutional, service, labour, company and criminal laws.

Collegium Recommends Appointment of Tejas Karia as Delhi High Court Judge

The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the name of afvocate Tejas Dhirenbhai Karia for appointment as a Judge of the High Court of Delhi.
The Collegium noted that Karia is a domain expert in the law of arbitration. Since the volume of cases on arbitration law requires specialized handling, particularly, in the High Court of Delhi, Tejas Dhirenbhai Karia will prove to be a value addition to the Bench of the High Court of Delhi.

Bombay High Court Orders State to Create Social Media Handle for Citizens to Report Manual Scaven...

The Bombay High Court, ordered the Maharashtra government to create a social media handle, which could be used by citizens and also non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to report instances of 'manual scavenging' across the State.
A division bench of Justices Nitin Jamdar and Milind Sathaye opined that such creation of the social media handle will help the District Level Committees and also the Vigilance Committees under the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and Their Rehabilitation Act, 2013, to ensure no manual scavenging takes place.
