IIT Madras Pravartak to Train Engineering Students in Manufacturing, Production

IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation has partnered with SWAYAM Plus to launch a new initiative to train engineering students with mechanical, manufacturing, and production backgrounds with industry-ready technical skills.
The last date to apply is October 10. The training programme will be from October 14 to 26. Those interested can register through the following link – iitmpravartak.org.in/digital_mfg_practice.
This programme will provide hands-on training with a fee of Rs. 6,000 + GST. Accommodation will be offered at the IIT Madras campus at a cost of Rs 650 per day per student, which includes food and stay. Students can make accommodation requests can be made on/before October 10.
This course offers a practical approach to bridge the gap between theoretical engineering concepts and real-world manufacturing processes. Skills such as simple quantification, back-of-the-envelope calculations, quick engineering drawings, use of the right tools, classification/taxonomy fundamentals and systems approach to planning and execution will be introduced and strengthened.

WHO Approves First mpox Diagnostic Test for Emergency Use

The World Health Organization (WHO) approved the first diagnostic test for mpox where the results can be immediately known, saying it could prove pivotal in helping to stop the rising global cases of the deadly virus.
The approval for emergency use was given to Abbott Molecular Inc. PCR test, Alinity m MPXV assay. The WHO said that the test would be pivotal in expanding diagnostic capacity in countries facing mpox outbreaks, where the need for quick and accurate testing has risen sharply.
According to WHO, limited testing capacity and delays in confirming mpox cases persist in Africa, contributing to the continued spread of the virus.
Outside Africa, one case each of mpox clade 1b was reported from Sweden and Thailand. India is the third country to report this fast-spreading mpox strain.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo, which accounts for more than 90% of the reported cases.

Delhi University Introduces Dual Degree Option with Regular and ODL Programmes

The University of Delhi (DU) announced that students can now pursue two degree programmes simultaneously within the university. According to a new notification, students can enroll in one degree through the regular mode at any DU college or department, while the second degree can be pursued via Open and Distance Learning (ODL) through the School of Open Learning.
This new policy allows both current and prospective DU students to opt for dual degrees. However, students are not allowed to pursue two similar degrees, such as BCom (Hons) and BCom (Pass), even if one is in ODL mode.
Students pursuing dual degrees are required to meet the academic requirements for each programme separately. This includes attending classes, completing assignments, giving presentations, passing assessments, and meeting promotion criteria for each programme.

Delhi Schools to Teach New Criminal Laws in Special NCERT Modules

The Delhi government introduced special modules on three new criminal laws for senior secondary students to enhance legal awareness.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in Delhi developed these modules, covering the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam for students in Classes 11 and 12.
The main goal of this initiative is to instil a sense of responsibility amongst students and educators, particularly concerning issues related to emotional and physical violence, ensuring they can effectively address such matters.
All government, government-aided, and unaided private schools under the Directorate of Education (DoE) have been directed to share these modules with teachers, students, and parents.

Uttar Pradesh Govt. to Register IITs, IIMs, others for Scholarship Disbursal to Students

After a Dalit student from Uttar Pradesh almost lost his IIT seat due to delayed fee payment, the state government plans to register all IITs, IIMs and other premier institutes with its Department of Social Welfare to provide scholarships to students.
The first to be registered would be the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Dhanbad, which was directed by the Supreme Court to admit the student, Atul Kumar, the son of a daily wager from Muzaffarnagar's Titora village.

Central Government Approves Eight New Medical Colleges in Maharashtra

The National Medical Commission (NMC) approved eight new government-run medical colleges in Maharashtra, taking the total number of government medical colleges in the state to 35, with a total of 4,850 seats. The new colleges will be located in Gadchiroli, Amravati, Washim, Jalna, Buldhana, Ambarnath, Bhandara, and Hingoli, and each college will have 100 MBBS seats.
The move is in line with the state government's policy of establishing at least one medical college in every district. It is expected to reduce the need for students to seek medical education abroad, as more opportunities will be available locally.
The state has allocated Rs. 403 crore for constructing each of the eight colleges approved by the NMC in addition to the two colleges previously approved in Mumbai and Nashik.

Odisha Government Announces Change in School Uniforms for Classes 9, 10

The newly formed BJP government announced a new colour scheme for the uniforms of students in classes 9 and 10 at government and aided schools. According to the official directive, the updated uniforms will incorporate a combination of light brown, chocolate, and clay-baked yellow.
The current school uniforms consist of a green and white colour scheme, aligning with the colour code of the BJD's party symbol.
Under the "Chief Minister's Students' Wear Scheme," new uniforms have been chosen for government and government-aided secondary school students. Instructions have been issued, and the new uniforms will be distributed to schools where the previous uniforms have not been stitched or provided.

IIT Madras Launches 'Cyber Commandos' Training for Law Enforcement Officers

IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation launched a new training program to create 'Cyber Commandos' among law enforcement officers across India. An initiative of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the 'Cyber Commandos' programme is a critical step in bolstering India's cyber defence capabilities.
This specialised force will be at the forefront of defending the nation against cyberattacks, safeguarding sensitive data and maintaining digital sovereignty.
The Cyber Commandos will represent a significant upgrade from existing cybercrime cells. While these cells primarily focus on reactive measures like investigation and prosecution of cybercrimes, the commandos will be a proactive force.
The training programme was launched at IIT Madras today by Professor V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, in the presence of Dr. Sandeep Mittal, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Cyber Crime Wing, Tamil Nadu, Col Arvind Kumar, Director, Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), Mr. Mayank Ghildiyal, Deputy Director, I4C, Dr. M. J. Shankar Raman, CEO, IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation and other dignitaries.
