India Wins Ranks 7th at International Mathematical Olympiad in Australia
An Indian team comprising six contestants secured the 7th rank at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), held at the Sunshine Coast, Australia.
The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), under the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, is the nodal agency responsible for organising India's participation in international science olympiads, including Mathematics.
The IMO is the world's most prestigious mathematics competition for high school students.
The top eight positions went to China (1st), the United States (2nd), the Republic of Korea (3rd) and Poland and Japan (tied for 4th).

First Campus of IICT Inaugurated in Mumbai
Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis jointly inaugurated the first campus of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) at the NFDC Complex in Mumbai. Vaishnaw announced that IICT will offer advanced, industry-aligned training in VFX, post-production, XR, gaming, and animation, in collaboration with global tech giants like Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Apple.
IIT Roorkee Develops World's First AI Tool to Decode Modi Script into Devanagari
In a major push for India's digital heritage mission, IIT Roorkee created the world's first AI model that transliterates the ancient Modi script into Devanagari. The tool, called MoScNet, helps convert old handwritten manuscripts into readable text, making them accessible for research, education, and preservation.
The project, named Historic Scripts to Modern Vision, also includes a one-of-a-kind dataset -- MoDeTrans -- that has over 2,000 images of original Modi script manuscripts. These cover eras from Shivaji's time to the British period and come with verified Devanagari transliterations.
Seoul Top City for International Students
Seoul emerged as the most preferred city for international students, according to the QS Best Student Cities Ranking 2026. The South Korean capital took the top spot, pushing London to third place, while Tokyo climbed to second spot.
This is the first time two Asian cities have led the global student city rankings.
Compiled by UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the annual index considers a mix of factors including affordability, student mix, desirability, quality of universities, and employment outcomes after graduation.

Lucknow University VC Alok Kumar Rai Appointed Director of IIM Calcutta
Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor Professor Alok Kumar Rai was appointed as the new director of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C), one of India's premier management institutions.
His appointment was confirmed by the Ministry of Education following the approval of President Droupadi Murmu, who acts as the Visitor of IIM-C.
The appointment has been made under Section 16 (2) of the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017, which was amended in 2023 to allow more flexible appointments for the leadership of India's IIMs.

India Wins 2 Gold, 2 Silver Medals at International Chemistry Olympiad 2025
India's four-member student delegation to the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2025 returned with two gold and two silver medals. The competition was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and featured participation from 354 students representing 90 countries, along with five observer nations. This marked India's 26th appearance at the IChO.
The Indian team was selected and trained by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai, under the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).
