Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) celebrated once in two years on January 9 is a significant event that honours the contributions of the Indian diaspora to their homeland. The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention was first established in 2003 under the government of then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as a platform to recognise and engage with the overseas Indian community.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is the flagship event of the Ministry of External Affairs. It is held in different cities, to showcase the diversity and progress of different regions of India. Since 2015, it has evolved into a biennale event.

African National Congress Foundation Day

The African National Congress (ANC), a pivotal force in South Africa's history, celebrates its Foundation Day on January 8, commemorating its establishment in 1912. This day marks the ANC's enduring commitment to uniting African people and defending their rights and freedoms.
The ANC, initially founded as the South African Native National Congress (SANNC) in Bloemfontein, symbolises a landmark event in Africa's struggle against centuries of exploitation and humiliation.
In 1923, the SANNC was renamed the African National Congress, aligning itself with the struggles of miners and workers.

January 6 marks the World Day of War Orphans, a day to acknowledge the hardships faced by children who lose their parents to war.
This day serves as a global call to action, urging collective efforts to provide these vulnerable children with care, education, and protection. The World Day of War Orphans underscores the need to support these young survivors and help them rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
World Day of War Orphans was founded by the French organisation SOS Enfants en Détresses. The day focuses on the lives of children impacted by war and aims to improve their future.

National Birds Day

National Bird Day, which has American origins, is celebrated annually on January 5 since its inaugural event in 2002.
The day was first observed by the Avian Welfare Coalition, which is involved in the cause of promoting awareness about birds that are caught or end up in captivity for either monetary profit or for human entertainment.

World Braille Day

World Braille Day, marked on January 4 every year, is observed across the globe to raise awareness about the importance of Braille as a means of communication for blind and partially sighted people.
World Braille Day is celebrated to honour Louis Braille's legacy and contribution and to spread awareness of its importance as a tactile system of reading and writing for the blind or visually impaired.
The United Nations recognised the day for the first time in 2019.
The theme for 2025 World Braille Day is 'Celebrating Accessibility and Inclusion for the Visually Impaired.'
