Manoj Tiwary Announces Retirement from All Forms of Cricket

Former India batsman Manoj Tiwary announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, drawing curtains to a very unique career.
Tiwary, who played 12 ODIs and three T20Is between 2008 and 2015, ventured into politics even while he remained an active cricketer, and became a Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs in West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's state cabinet.
Tiwary finished his First-Class career just 92 runs shy of the 10,000-landmark (9,908 runs) and averaged 48.56 with 29 centuries in a glittering 19-year career. He made his debut under Deep Dasgupta in 2004 against Delhi at the Eden Gardens.
He was also a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders' maiden IPL triumph in 2012 and struck the winning runs in the last over to seal a 191-run chase against the CSK.

South Zone Claim Deodhar Trophy

South Zone clinched the Deodhar Trophy title for the ninth time with a commanding 45-run win over East Zone in the final.
After opener Rohan Kunnummal smacked a sensational 75-ball 107 to set the ball rolling for his side, there was no stopping South, who piled up 328/8 batting first.
South's impressive bowling line-up then made life miserable for East's batters, who were bowled out for 283 in 46.1 overs.
The Prof. D.B. Deodhar Trophy or simply Deodhar Trophy (also known as Mastercard Deodhar Trophy due to sponsorship reasons), is a List A cricket domestic cricket tournament of India. It is named after D. B. Deodhar (known as the Grand Old Man of Indian cricket) and is a 50-over knockout competition played on an annual basis among the 3 national level teams - India A, India B and India C.
The competition was introduced in 1973-74 season as an inter-zonal tournament.

Canada's Alberta Cancels Bid for 2030 Commonwealth Games

The province of Alberta withdrew its support for a possible bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, ending the chance of bringing the multi-sport event back to Canada.
Minister of Tourism and Sport Joseph Schow said that hosting the Games, which typically attract more than 4,000 athletes from the 54 nations of the Commonwealth, was not in line with the interests of Alberta taxpayers.
"The corporate sponsorship model and limited broadcast revenues for the Commonwealth Games would have put 93 percent of those costs and risks on taxpayers.

Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society Sign MoU with AIFF

For the first time ever, Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society (SMSES) collaborated with All India Football Federation (AIFF) to promote football at grass root level. As part of this MoU, from this edition onwards, a Subroto XI team will be formed in Junior Boys (U-17) category. The team will participate in AIFF Youth Competition from the 2023-24 season. Further, clubs from ISL, I-League and IWL will pick up players from Subroto Cup to represent their teams. This will help the players to showcase their talents at National level. AIFF will also promote the Subroto Cup through their annual media plan and calendar. In order to prevent age fraud in the competition, SMSES will conduct age determination tests using experts. To update and educate coaches, an education workshop will be undertaken by AIFF for coaches of final round teams at Delhi and Bengaluru.
Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society (SMSES) conducts the prestigious Subroto Cup International Football Tournament annually since 1960, under the aegis of Air Force Sports Control Board. This is a unique football tournament wherein school teams from all states starting from grass-root level vie for top honours in football in the country in three categories viz, Sub-junior Boys (U-14), Junior Boys (U-17) and Junior Girls (U-17).

World University Games: Silver Lining for Shooters

The Indian shooting duo of Elavenil Valarivan and Divyansh Singh Panwar won a silver medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event, while Bhavani Yadav Bhagavathi clinched bronze in the women's long jump in the World University Games.
Elavenil and Divyansh lost the gold medal match 13-17 to the Chinese duo of Yu Zhang and Buhan Song to settle for the silver.

Dhiraj Bommadevara Grabs 2nd Spot in World Archery Championship Qualifications

Army man Dhiraj Bommadevara led India's charge with a strong second place finish in the rain-hit recurve men's qualification round of the World Archery Championships.
Dhiraj shot 683 points, five less than Korean double Olympic gold medallist Kim Woo-jin in the competition that will offer the first quota places for next year's Paris Olympics.
Dhiraj's teammates Tushar Shelke (650) and Mrinal Chauhan (640) were the next best Indians at a disappointing 55th and 83rd spot, taking the team ranking to ninth.

World University Games: Double Delight for Shooter Sift Kaur Samra

Sift Kaur Samra edged out Ashi Chouksey and won the gold medal in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions at the World University Games.
Sift scored 462.9 points, while Ashi finished with 461.6 as India grabbed the top two positions. Sift, Ashi and Manini Kaushik also won gold in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions team event. The trio scored 3,527 points to take the top spot.

Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes Highest Goal Scorer with Headers in Football History

Cristiano Ronaldo became the highest goal scorer through headers when he scored the second goal for Al Nassr against US Monastir in a King Salman Club Cup game at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Ronaldo scored his 145th headed goal. He broke the record of Gerd Muller who had 144 goals through headers.
The top four to score the most headers in football history are Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) – 145, Gerd Muller (Germany) – 144, Carlos Santillana (Spain) – 125 and Pele (Brazil) – 124.
