Smooth Sailing for Vishnu, Books Paris Berth

Asian Games bronze medallist Vishnu Sarvanan became the first Indian sailor to qualify for successive Olympics. A Subedar from the Mumbai-based Army Yachting Node, he secured qualification for the Paris Games by finishing 26th out of 152 participants in ILCA-7 at the World Championships. He thus, became the first Indian sailor to make the cut for the Paris Games.

Asian Cricket Council 'Unanimously' Appoints Jay Shah as President

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) appointed Jay Shah as the president of the body for the third year in a row.
Jay Shah's extension was proposed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) president Shammi Silva for the second time and the nomination was unanimously backed by all the members of the ACC.
Shah who is also Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took the reins as president of ACC in January 2021 for the first time.
The Asian Cricket Council also known as ACC is a cricket organisation which was established in 1983, to promote and develop the sport of Cricket in Asia.
The ACC is headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Khelo India Youth Games 2024

Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2024, the sixth edition of the flagship event under the Indian government's Khelo India initiative, concluded on January 31, 2024.
Over 5,600 athletes from all over the country competed at the Khelo India Youth Games 2024, which ran from January 19 to 31. Tamil Nadu hosted the KIYG 2024 in four cities - Chennai, Madurai, Trichy and Coimbatore.
Maharashtra defended their Khelo India Youth Games title after topping the medals tally with 57 gold medals, 48 silver and 53 bronze, 158 medals in total. It was their fourth KIYG title.
Host state Tamil Nadu finished second with 38 gold, 21 silver and 39 bronze its best-ever finish (98 medals). Haryana, who won two KIYG titles, came third with 35 gold, 22 silver and 46 bronze medals (103 medals).
A total of 926 medals - 278 gold, 278 silver and 370 bronze - were on offer across 26 sports at KIYG 2024 Tamil Nadu.
The Khelo India Youth Games operates in a team championship format, wherein the medals earned by individual athletes or teams contribute to the overall medals tally of their respective state or Union Territory (UT). Upon the event's conclusion, the state or UT securing the highest count of gold medals is declared the winner.

Sonam Maskar made a remarkable debut in the shooting World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, clinching the women's air rifle silver medal. Despite her impressive performance, she was narrowly beaten by Anna Janssen of Germany by a mere 0.9 points.

Indian Boxer Mandeep Jangra Wins U.S Intercontinental Title

Indian boxer Mandeep Jangra won the US-based National Boxing Association's (NBA) Intercontinental Super Featherweight Championship. His win came after a compelling bout against American Gerardo Esquivel in Toppenish City, Washington.
Undefeated in his professional career thus far, Jangra's victory over Esquivel adds another remarkable feat to his resume. Prior to this triumph, he boasted knockout wins in four out of his six fights, showcasing his dominance and skill inside the ring.

Divyansh Singh Panwar Breaks 10m Air Rifle World Record

Divyansh Singh Panwar at the ISSF World Cup in Cairo, Egypt broke Lihao's world record in the 10m air riffle with a final score of 253.7.
During the Asian Games in Hangzhou, in 2023, China's Sheng Lihao had become 10m air rifle champion with a world record of 253.3.

Netherlands Won FIH Hockey5s Women's World Cup

India finished as runner-up at the inaugural edition of the FIH Hockey 5s Women's World Cup after a 7-2 loss to the Netherlands in the final in Muscat, Oman.

East Bengal Champions of Super Cup with Win over Odisha FC

East Bengal was crowned champions of the Super Cup after emerging 3-2 winner in a final against Odisha FC in Bhubaneswar. Despite both sides having multiple chances to score, neither could convert as the match ended 2-2 after regulation time and also after the end of the first half of extra-time. Brazilian recruit Cleiton struck the winner for East Bengal in the 111th minute of the match, leaving his team in a state of frenzy and the opponents shocked.

ICC Lifts Suspension on Sri Lanka Cricket with Immediate Effect

The International Cricket Council (ICC) lifted the suspension imposed on Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) with immediate effect. The ICC Board had been monitoring the situation since the suspension and was now satisfied that SLC is no longer in breach of membership obligations.
In November 2023, SLC was suspended by ICC following a political slugfest in SL after the introduction of an interim committee led by Arjun Ranatunga by the Sri Lanka Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, who also suspended the entire SLC board following a heavy loss to India in the Cricket World Cup and a disappointing tournament overall, which saw them win only two matches out of nine and also miss out on ICC Champions Trophy 2025 slot.

Jannik Sinner Wins Australian Open 2024

Jannik Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the Australian Open final in Melbourne and clinched his maiden Grand Slam crown.
Sinner is the third Italian player to win a Grand Slam men's singles title, after Nicola Pietrangeli, who won back-to-back Roland Garros titles in 1959 and 1960, and Adriano Panatta, who won the title at 1976 Roland Garros.
The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held annually at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The tournament is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.
It was first held in 1905 as the Australasian Championships. In 1969, it became the Australian Open.

Hsieh Su-wei and Jan Zielinski Win Mixed Doubles Title at Australian Open

Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan and Poland's Jan Zielinski won the Australian Open mixed doubles title after beating Desirae Krawczyk of the United States and Neal Skupski of Britain 6-7 (5), 6-4, 11-9.
