Govt. Launches 'FloodWatch' App for Real-time Flood Updates
Amid a rise in flood-related incidents in the country, including loss of life and property, the government launched an app to disseminate real-time information on the flood situation in affected areas.
The 'FloodWatch' app will collect data from 338 stations to send real-time flood updates across 23 states and Union Territories.

Israeli Report Warns of Deterioration in Red Sea Corals
An Israeli annual national monitoring indicated deterioration in coral reefs off the Red Sea coast near the southernmost resort city of Eilat, Israel's Ministry of Environmental Protection said.
The monitoring, jointly carried out by the ministry and Eilat's Interuniversity Institute for Marine Sciences, found that the coral population is facing threats from the continuous warming of seawater, the accumulation of pollutants deep in the sea, extreme storms, and marine diseases.
As per the report, the cause could be the pollution originating from metals of fish cages and the Kinet channel on the north coast of Eilat, which drains and transports floodwater from the nearby Arava valley.

NASA Terms July as Hottest Month on Record Ever Since 1880
The US space agency NASA confirmed that July was the hottest month on record ever since 1880, as heat waves and wildfires hit the cities in the US and Europe.
According to scientists at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York, July 2023 was hotter than any other month in the global temperature record.
Overall, July 2023 was 0.24 degrees Celsius warmer than any other July in NASA's record, and it was 1.18 degrees Celsius warmer than the average July between 1951 and 1980.
High sea surface temperatures contributed to July's record warmth. NASA's analysis shows especially warm ocean temperatures in the eastern tropical Pacific, evidence of the El Nino that began developing in May 2023.

India succeeds in reducing emissions rate by 33% over 14 years: sources
India's greenhouse emissions rate dropped by a faster-than-expected 33% in 14 years as renewable energy generation rose and forest cover increased, according to two officials privy to latest assessment made for submission to the United Nations.
The report's findings showed India well on the way to meeting a commitment to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), to reduce emissions intensity by 45% from the 2005 level by 2030.
India's rate of emissions intensity - the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions emitted for every unit increase of gross domestic product (GDP) - fell by 33% from 2005 to 2019, officials privy to the preparations of the Third National Communication (TNC) report said.
Many countries are preparing their TNC reports to update the UNFCCC on their efforts to mitigate emissions.
