Raj Government to Hold Tourism Festival 'Great Indian Travel Bazaar' from May 5-7

  • The tourism department of Rajasthan will host the thirteenth Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) in Jaipur from May 5-7 to promote tourism in the state.
  • The department is organising the event jointly with the Centre's tourism ministry and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
  • The state government plans to showcase its tourism infrastructure during the event.
  • The state would showcase cultural events based on art, tourism and history of Rajasthan.

Air India Expands Partnership with Japan's ANA

  • Air India entered into a codeshare partnership with All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan's largest airline. This agreement, effective from May 23, 2024, will allow passengers of both airlines to combine flights between India and Japan using a single ticket.
  • Under the codeshare agreement, Air India will add its 'AI' designator code to ANA's flights between Tokyo Haneda and Delhi, as well as Tokyo Narita and Mumbai. Similarly, ANA will add its 'NH' code to Air India's flights between Tokyo Narita and Delhi.

Passport Affordability Rankings: Indian Passport Second Cheapest, UAE Tops

  • A study conducted by Australian firm Compare the Market AU revealed intriguing insights into global passport affordability and accessibility. According to the study, the Indian passport ranks as the second cheapest worldwide, with the UAE passport claiming the top spot for affordability. While the Indian passport offers a cost-effective option in terms of both acquisition cost and yearly expenses, its visa-free access is relatively limited compared to higher-priced passports.
  • In terms of cost per year of validity, the Indian passport emerges as the most economical option, with a mere $1.81 expenditure per year. This places India ahead of countries like South Africa and Kenya, offering passport holders significant savings over time.
  • Contrary to popular belief, the United States' passport is not the most expensive globally. According to the study, Mexico holds the title for the most expensive passport, followed closely by Australia.

EU Eases Norm to Offer Indians Multiple Entry Schengen Visa

  • In a major reprieve for Indian travellers seeking to visit Europe during the upcoming holiday season, the European Union will now offer multiple entry Schengen visas with longer validity. As EU eases the visa norms, frequent Indian travellers will now be able to apply for five-year multiple entry visas, which puts them at par with "visa-free nationals"
  • As per the European Union, Indian nationals can now be issued long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas valid for two years after having obtained and used two visas in the past three years.
  • European Union's ambassador to India Herve Delphin described the new visa regime as another step towards enhancing people-to-people contact between the two sides.

Nepal Launches First International Rainbow Tourism Conference

  • The first International Rainbow Tourism Conference was held, with Nepal offering itself as a safe and respectful destination in South Asia for the sexual minority community. The single-day international conference was organised by Mayako Pahichan Nepal, a non-governmental organisation. "This pioneer event organised by Mayako Pahichan Nepal in collaboration with Nepal Tourism Board marked a significant milestone in promoting diversity and inclusivity within the tourism industry.
  • The conference's main objective is to position Nepal as an LGBT-friendly tourism destination. The international conference was inaugurated by Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Bhagawati Chaudhary, who underlined the need to forge collaboration among different stakeholders to promote LGBT tourism in Nepal.
