Karnataka Public Varsity, Bangalore University Gets NAAC's A++ Grade

  • Bangalore University was accredited with a CGPA (cumulative grade point average) of 3.75 on a four-point scale at the A++ grade in cycle IV of the University Grants Commission's National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
  • The university is the first in the public sector in Karnataka to achieve this outstanding grade, something that would help to attain absolute autonomy and national recognition. It has excelled in NAAC-specified criteria such as curricular aspects, teaching, learning and evaluation; research, innovations and extension; infrastructure and learning resources; student support and progression; governance leadership and management; institutional values and best practices.

IIT Kanpur First among Best College for Innovation

  • Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur topped the list of best colleges in the field of Innovation under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023. The NIRF 2023 rankings were released by the Ministry of Education. This was the debut year for the innovation category.
  • IIT Kanpur was followed by the IIT-Madras and the IIT-Hyderabad at the second and third positions, respectively.
  • The fourth spot was secured by IIT-Delhi. The IIT-Roorkee was in fifth place while the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore at the sixth spot. The seventh position was secured by IIT-Bombay.

AP Govt. Schools to Incorporate AI and ChatGPT in Syllabus

  • Setting an aim to deliver the best education to children of Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy sanctioned the distribution of the Jagananna Vidya Kanuka school kits for the upcoming academic year 2023-2024 at Krosuru of Pedakurapadu constituency in Palnadu district.
  • Addressing the public meeting, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy shared his vision to provide the best education to AP children under his chairmanship.
  • He envisioned matching up to international standards of education in government schools. CM Reddy shared that he wanted the poor children of Andhra Pradesh to be adept with futuristic technologies and modern concepts.
  • He further said that in the coming days, his government would be adding modern concepts like Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, language modules, and ChatGPT to the syllabus.
  • CM Reddy also formed a committee to explore how these concepts can be inculcated in day-to-day learning, to make students privy to new technologies.

BHU launches 'Life Skills and Well-Being' initiative for the students of Institute of Science

  • In another important step aimed at the overall growth and well-being of its students, Banaras Hindu University has launched the 'Student Well-Being Initiative' for its students studying at the Institute of Science. The initiative will support the students in their pursuit of academic development as well as psychological, emotional, physical, and mental well-being.
  • Vice-Chancellor Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain has formed a ten-member committee chaired by Professor Satyen Saha, Department of Chemistry, to carry out activities under the initiative. The committee will help students navigate life challenges, resolve psychological concerns and develop a life-long orientation toward resilience and mental wellness through formal and informal means.

Goa Board Introduces AI as Subject from Class 9 Onwards

  • The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an additional subject from Class 9 onwards. According to the official notification issued by the state board, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be implemented in all schools which are not offering NSQF subject.
  • The syllabus of Artificial Intelligence (AI) / ICT of Class IX and Class XI will be same for the Academic year 2023-24 under School Assessment.
  • Those Schools/Students opting for Artificial Intelligence (AT) as 7th subject at Class IX, the existing School Assessment Subject, ICT will be exempted.
  • Class 9 students who opt for Artificial Intelligence will have 40 marks worth theory piece (20 marks for first term and 20 marks for second term) and 60 marks practical (30 marks for first term and 30 marks for second term).

NMC Approves 50 Medical Colleges, Total Seats Set to Cross 1 lakh

  • India is all set to have over one lakh seats for medical undergraduate courses as National Medical Commission (NMC) approved the opening of 50 new medical colleges this year (2023) which will have 8,195 MBBS seats.
  • Out of these colleges 20 will be government-run and 30 will be private-run medical colleges across 14 states and one union territory.

Mumbai University, SPPU Get New Vice Chancellors

  • Ravindra Kulkarni was appointed as Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University (MU), while Dr. Suresh Gosavi is the new VC of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais's office said.
  • Governor is the chancellor of public universities in the state.
  • The Governor informed that Dr. Sanjay Bhave was appointed as the new VC of Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli.

NIRF 2023 (Dental Colleges): Top 4 Institutes Retain Their Spots (9)

  • In the list of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 released by the Ministry of Education, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai retained its first rank under the dental college category scoring 84.08 points, up from 82.30 points scored in 2022.
  • Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal retained the second spot it secured in 2022. In 2023, the college scored 77.51 points.
  • The third position was secured by Dr. DY Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune, the same as last year. This year (2023), the college got a score of 73.08.
  • The fourth spot was bagged by Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Delhi for the third consecutive year.
  • AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru came fifth. SRM Dental College, Chennai came sixth. The seventh position was secured by Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research.
