Former Director of AIIMS Dr. Venugopal Passes Away
Former AIIMS director Dr. P. Venugopal, a pioneer in cardiac surgery, who conducted India's first heart transplant and over 50,000 heart surgeries in his career, passed away.
Hailing from Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, Venugopal introduced advanced Western concepts of cardiac surgery in the early 1970s in India. In his four-decade-long tenure, he headed the AIIMS cardiothoracic centre and later became its dean and director.
Dr. Venugopal was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 1998 for his contributions to the field of Medicine. In 2023, he published his memoirs 'Heartfelt', co-authored with his wife Priya Sarkar.

Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata Passes Away
The Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons and recipient of India's second highest civilian honour, Padma Vibhushan, Ratan Tata passed away. He was 86 years old.
In 2008, he received the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian honour in India, after receiving the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian honour in 2000. He joined Tata in 1961, where he worked on the shop floor of Tata Steel. He later succeeded J. R. D. Tata as chairman of Tata Sons upon the latter's retirement in 1991. Under his tenure the Tata Group acquired Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus, in an attempt to turn Tata from a largely India-centric group into a global business.

Nepal's Nima Rinji Becomes the youngest Climber to Conquer All 14 Peaks above 8,000 Meters
Nepal's teenage Sherpa climber, Nima Rinji Sherpa (18 years) created a world record as the youngest person to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters.
Expedition organiser, Seven Summit Treks, announced the feat by a teenage climber after he reached the summit of Mount Shishapangma.
His climbing partners Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, who also completed the 14x8000ers.
The teenage climber was waiting for permits from the Chinese side which came in September, opening his way for the record-setting attempt. Nima Rinji started off for his record-setting summit attempt in September 2022 by climbing 8,163 meters of Mount Manaslu. He completed his forte to climb all 14 peaks in two years and ten days.

Anushka Sen Becomes First Indian to Perform At the Times Square (27)
Anushka Sen made history as the first Indian artist to perform live on stage at Times Square, New York City. Marking her debut as a singer in the West, she collaborated with UN Young Leader for Sustainable Development Goals, AY Young, on his Battery Tour, which aims to power 1,000 concerts using clean energy. Together, they performed their song "Graduation" from "Project 17," an album focused on the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Composed by Grammy Award winner Ken Lewis, the track underscores Anushka's commitment to promoting education.

Rhea Singha from Gujarat Wins Miss Universe India 2024 Title
Rhea Singha, a 19-year-old model from Gujarat, was crowned Miss Universe India 2024 in Jaipur. She will represent India at the global Miss Universe competition in Mexico in November 2024.
Rhea (contestant #36) won the title after defeating 51 candidates for Miss Universe India title.
The judging panel for Miss Universe India 2024, alongside Urvashi Rautela, featured Nikhil Anand, Vietnamese celebrity Nguyen Quynh, fashion photographer Rian Fernandes, and entrepreneur Rajeev Shrivastava.
Pranjal Priya (#34) was named 1st Runner-Up, while Chhavi Verg (#16) took the 2nd Runner-Up spot. Sushmita Roy (#47) and Ruopfuzhano Whiso (#39) secured 3rd and 4th Runner-Up positions, respectively.
