Sunil Bharti Mittal receives Honorary Knighthood from King Charles III

  • Sunil Bharti Mittal, the founder and chairperson of Bharti Enterprises, was conferred an Honorary knighthood by King Charles III of the United Kingdom. Mittal became the first Indian to receive the Knighthood from King Charles.
  • He was made a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. The Knighthood is one of the highest civilian awards bestowed by the British sovereign. Foreign nationals receive it as an honorary award.
  • Knighthood, the Knight Commander (KBE), is bestowed for a preeminent contribution in any field of activity (usually, but not exclusively, at the national level) or in a capacity regarded by peer groups as inspirational and influential nationally and demonstrates sustained commitment.
  • The KBE is awarded in an honorary capacity to foreign nationals. While the Knighthood conferred on UK nationals gives them the title of Sir or Dame, non-UK nationals conferred with the Honour, add KBE (or DBE for women) after their name instead of using titles such as Sir or Dame. Ratan Tata (2009), Ravi Shankar (2001), and Jamshed Irani (1997) are among the previous Honorary KBE recipients.

C-DOT Wins 3 Awards for Telecom Innovations at 14th Aegis Graham Bell

  • Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the premier Telecom R&D centre of the Government of India, achieved a remarkable feat by clinching the top position in three categories at the esteemed 14th Annual Aegis Graham Bell Awards. The event was held at the NDMC Convention Centre, New Delhi.
  • The first award, jointly shared with Google India, was conferred upon C-DOT for its pioneering ASTR Project under the category 'Innovation in AI'.
  • C-DOT secured the second award in the category 'Innovation in Social Good' for its groundbreaking CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) solution.
  • The third accolade was bestowed upon C-DOT in the category 'Innovation in Telecom' for its Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) product.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, IAF Squadron Leader Sumita Yadav Named IIMC's 'Alumni of the Year'

  • Film director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and Indian Air Force Squadron Leader Sumita Yadav were conferred the Alumni of the Year award by the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCA).
  • The association held its 12th annual alumni meet, 'Connections 2024', in the Capital. Awards were presented to 23 winners.
  • The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to newsreader Rini Simon Khanna; and journalists Bernard Vivian Fernandes and Rajeev Deshpande.
  • Sanjive Shukla, DIG – UP; Rajvardhan Singh, former MP minister; Assam Police SP Numal Mahatta; IAS officer Mitali Namchoom Singh; and Manipur's MLA Sheikh Noorul Hasan were honoured with the Public Service Awards.
  • A book titled 'Odyssey,' a compilation of interviews with former students was also released at the event.

Aditi Sen De Receives 2023 GD Birla Award

  • In a world propelled by technological advancements, quantum computing emerges as a frontier of innovation. At its forefront stands Aditi Sen De, a distinguished physicist from the Harish Chandra Research Institute in Prayagraj was honoured with the 2023 GD Birla Award for Scientific Excellence. De's groundbreaking contributions to quantum technologies mark a significant milestone in scientific research.
  • De is the first woman recipient of the GD Birla Award for Scientific Excellence.

Yana Mir, Honoured In UK Parliament

  • Yana Mir, a social activist and journalist from Jammu and Kashmir, speaking at an event hosted by the Jammu and Kashmir Study Centre in the UK, she asserted that she was not Malala Yusufzai and was safe in India.
  • At the event in the UK Parliament, Mir received the Diversity Ambassador Award from UK MP Theresa Villiers in the presence of MPs Bob Blackman and Virendra Sharma. Yana Mir is an activist, journalist, and TedX speaker from Srinagar. 
  • She holds a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from IEC University and an MBA from the University of Mumbai.
  • She is also the Vice President of All JK Youth Society (AJKYS), a social welfare wing of the Zaberwan Group, which is committed to working for the welfare, safety, and empowerment of the youth across the Kashmir Valley.

Dadasaheb Phalke IFF Awards 2024

  • The Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2024 was held in Mumbai. Several notable celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rani Mukerji, Atlee and Nayanthara, among others were in attendance at the star-studded event. Shah Rukh bagged the Best Actor Award while Nayanthara was awarded the Best Actress.

Shashi Tharoor Conferred France's Highest Civilian Honour

  • Shashi Tharoor, a prolific author and a diplomat-turned-politician, was conferred France's highest civilian honour 'Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur'.
  • Author of several books and a Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Tharoor was conferred the prestigious award at the French Embassy by French Senate President Gerard Larcher.
  • The French government had announced the award for Tharoor, a former Union Minister, in August 2022.
  • The highest French civilian award came in recognition of Tharoor's tireless efforts to deepen Indo-French ties, commitment to international peace and cooperation, and as a long-standing friend of France.
