Nawazuddin Siddiqui Wins Best Actor at the New York Indian Film Festival

Nawazuddin Siddiqui won the Best Actor award at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) for his role in I'm Not an Actor. The festival, known for spotlighting bold and meaningful cinema from the Indian diaspora, recognised Siddiqui's deeply layered performance in a film that grapples with themes of identity, authenticity, and the blurred lines between real life and performance.

JCB Prize for Literature Cancelled

In a move that has left authors, publishers, and readers stunned, the JCB Prize for Literature, India's most prestigious and highest-paying literary award, was officially discontinued. Established in 2018 by the JCB Literature Foundation, the award carried a Rs. 25 lakh cash prize for the best work of fiction by an Indian author, including translated works. The announcement, which came without a formal public statement, was confirmed, following the cancellation of the foundation's license.

Indian animation film Desi Oon, directed by acclaimed animator Suresh Eriyat, clinched the Jury Award for Best Commissioned Film at the Annecy International Animation Festival 2025, the world's most prestigious event in the animation industry. The film, rooted in Indian culture and visual storytelling, has also swept several other awards globally, positioning India as a rising force in the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC-XR) sector.
