  • The Constitution of the 73rd Amendment Act of 1992 that came into force with effect on April 24, 1993, has vested constitutional status on Panchayati Raj Institutions. This marked the moment in the history of decentralisation of political power to the grassroots level. As a result, it was determined to delegate democracy's authority. For this reason, a panel headed by Balwantrai Mehta was established in 1957 to meet the demand. And for the first moment in decades, Panchayati Raj was established in India.

World Day for Animals in Laboratories

  • World Day for Animals in Laboratories is observed every year on April 24 to raise awareness about the suffering of animals used in scientific testing and research.
  • This global day was first introduced in 1979 by the National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS), a UK-based animal welfare organisation. It is now recognized by many countries and animal rights groups as a symbol of compassion and a call for change in the way scientific experiments are conducted. The date, April 24, was chosen in honor of Lord Hugh Dowding, a strong advocate for animal rights who campaigned against animal experiments.
