Assam Rifles Signs MoU with IIIT Manipur to Boost Drone Technology for Defence

In a step toward modernising India's defence capabilities, the Assam Rifles signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Manipur at Mantripukhri. The collaboration is aimed at advancing drone technology for security, surveillance, and logistics support, marking a milestone in defence-academia cooperation.
The agreement was formalised in the presence of Maj Gen Ravroop Singh, IG Assam Rifles (South), and the Director of IIIT Manipur. Both parties emphasised the importance of leveraging academic expertise and defence needs to build cutting-edge technological solutions.

Indian Naval Ships in Colombo Taking Part in Bilateral Exercise

Indian naval ships 'Rana' and 'Jyoti' are in Colombo participating in Sri Lanka-India Naval Exercise (SLINEX) between the two navies that aims at enhancing interoperability and maritime cooperation.
Conceptualised in 2005, Sri Lanka-India Naval Exercise (SLINEX) is a bilateral exercise that has strengthened maritime cooperation between the two nations over two decades.
The exercise is being conducted in two phases - the harbour phase in Colombo from August 14-16 followed by the sea phase from August 17-18.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a landmark national security initiative — 'Mission Sudarshan Chakra'. This ambitious decade-long mission aims to secure India's critical establishments using indigenous technology, marking a decisive step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat in defence and strategic infrastructure protection.
The initiative seeks to:
Establish a multi-layered security framework against evolving threats.
Reduce dependence on foreign security systems.
Integrate surveillance, cyber defence, and physical protection in one comprehensive shield.
Prepare India to anticipate and prevent threats rather than react to them.

Government Approves Maiden Cadre Restructuring of BSF

The government approved the first-ever cadre review of the Border Security Force (BSF) in 60 years of its existence enhancing its manpower by about 4,000 personnel between constable and inspector ranks.
As per reports, the decision pertaining to the Group B and Group C employees will result in immediate promotions to a total of 23,710 personnel.

Two More Defence Industrial Corridors

In a step towards strengthening India's self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) in defence production, the government is in an advanced stage of creating two more defence industrial corridors—one in Maharashtra and the other in Assam—in the coming months. This move follows the success of the two existing corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, which have made notable progress since their launch in 2018.
The concept of Defence Industrial Corridors was announced in 2017–18 to create specialised hubs for defence manufacturing and innovation.
