Gauhati High Court Bans Buffalo and Bulbul Fights in Assam

Animal rights organisation PETA welcomed the Gauhati High Court order banning buffalo and bulbul fights in Assam throughout the year. The High Court struck down a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the state government last year (2023) that permitted these activities during the Bhogali Bihu festival in January.

Advocate Yeshwanth Shenoy Elected Kerala High Court Advocates' Association President

Advocate Yeshwanth Shenoy was elected as the President of the Kerala High Court Advocates' Association (KHCAA) for the second time. Shenoy secured 2,380 votes, defeating his closest contender advocate Shiraz Abdulla MS by 756 votes.
The full list of elected members is as follows: President: Yeshwanth Shenoy, Vice President: Mohammed Haris KA, Vice President (Lady): Rema R., Secretary: Nandakumar MR and Treasurer: Jinish Paul P.

SC Grants Permanent Commission to Woman Army Officer

On December 9, 2024, the Supreme Court of India exercised its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to grant permanent commission to a woman Army officer, Lt. Col, who had been unfairly excluded from the same benefits extended to her counterparts.
This ruling highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure equal opportunities for women in the armed forces, reflecting the Court's commitment to addressing discrimination based on gender.

Bar Council Removes AAP Leader as Vice Chairman

The Bar Council of India (BCI) removed Sanjeev Nasiar from the post of Bar Council of Delhi's vice chairman, pending the completion of an inquiry into the authenticity of his law degree.
Nasiar, who is also the president of Aam Aadmi Party's legal cell, holds a law degree from Devi Ahilya Bai Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly opposed the BCI decision to remove Nasiar from the post of vice-chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi.

President of India Inaugurates New Judicial Court Complex at Bhubaneswar

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the new judicial complex in Bhubaneswar. Odisha Governor Raghubar Das and the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court were also present on this occasion.
The project cost of the newly constructed Judicial Complex in Bhubaneswar is Rs. 170 crore. There are 55 courtrooms in this edifice with 55 judge chambers.
