PM Narendra Modi Pays Tribute to Birsa Munda

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to legendary tribal leader and freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his 125th death anniversary, also known as 'Balidan Diwas', calling his life a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and commitment to tribal welfare and national pride.
  • Birsa Munda, born on November 15, 1875, in Ulihatu village – now in Jharkhand – emerged as a formidable force against British colonial rule in the late 19th century.
  • Known as 'Dharti Aaba' or the 'Father of the Earth' by tribal communities, Birsa Munda laid down his life for the cause of Indigenous empowerment and resistance to colonial oppression.
  • He passed away at the young age of 25 in British custody but left behind a legacy of resistance that continues to inspire tribal and non-tribal Indians alike.

Canada's First Astronaut Marc Garneau Dies

  • Marc Garneau, the first Canadian in space and a former Foreign Minister died. He was 76.
  • An electrical engineer and former Royal Canadian Navy officer, he became the first Canadian in space when he flew aboard the US space shuttle in 1984. Garneau made two other trips to space.
  • Garneau served in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Transport Minister.

Former Zambian President Lungu Passes Away

  • Former Zambian President Edgar Lungu died at the age of 68, six months after an attempted return to politics was thwarted by a court ruling that he could not run for office again.
  • Lungu was the sixth President of the Southern African nation and held office from 2015 to 2021, when he lost an election to long-time opposition leader and current President Hakainde Hichilema.
  • Lungu served as Justice and Defence Minister under former President Michael Sata before taking over the presidency in 2015.

Former Delhi High Court Chief Justice G.C. Mittal Passes Away

  • Former Chief Justice of Delhi and Rajasthan High Courts Justice Gokal Chand Mittal has passed away at the age of 92.
  • Justice Mittal after studying law, enrolled as an advocate in Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1956. He practiced mostly on civil side of the High Court at Chandigarh.
  • He was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court in February 1979 and was made permanent in June 1982.
  • He was appointed as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court in August 1991. In April 1994, he was transferred to Rajasthan High Court. He retired in March 1995.

  • Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri was crowned Miss World 2025 at a grand finale event held in Hyderabad, Telangana. She edged out Ethiopia's Hasset Dereje Admassu, who finished as the runner-up.
  • She was crowned by the reigning Miss World, Krystyna Pyszkova of the Czech Republic.
  • It was the 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant.
  • Chuangsri emerged as the winner among 107 national representatives from across the globe. This is Thailand's first win at the Miss World pageant.
  • India's Nandini Gupta, who represented the country this year, did not make it to the Top 8 finalists.
