KIIT DU Awarded Prestigious UN ECOSOC Special Consultative Status (4)

KIIT Deemed to be University was granted the distinguished Special Consultative Status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC), recognising the University's substantial contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From a pool of 476 applications around the World, only 19 organisations, including KIIT DU, were selected for this prestigious honour. The status was conferred during the UN ECOSOC management segment meeting, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

UP Government Removes Rs. 5 lakh Fine for Leaving Medical Seat

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak informed the Legislative Council that the rule of imposing a fine of Rs. 5 lakh for giving up a medical seat in medical education institutions is no longer effective in Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier, for giving up a medical seat, a fine of Rs. 5 lakh had to be paid. He gave this information to the House in response to a question asked by SP's Man Singh Yadav during the Question Hour.

IIT Kanpur and NYU Tandon Team up for Seven Cutting-edge Research Projects

IIT Kanpur announced a collaboration with the New York University Tandon School of Engineering to advance seven groundbreaking research projects. This partnership, which began in September 2023, focuses on cybersecurity, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, robotics, and wireless communications.
The collaboration follows US President Joe Biden's visit to the G20 Summit in New Delhi and the Association of American Universities' initiative to foster international partnerships.
This collaboration, funded by both institutions and supported by NYU Tandon's Centers for Advanced Technology in Telecommunications and Cybersecurity, aims to deliver technological innovations with a global impact.

India and WHO Sign Landmark Agreement for Global Traditional Medicine Centre

The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, and the World Health Organization signed a crucial Donor Agreement. This agreement outlines the financial terms for implementing the activities of the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre (GTMC) in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India.
The signing ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials:
H.E. Mr. Arindam Bagchi, Permanent Representative of India to the UN, Geneva (signing on behalf of the Ministry of Ayush)
Dr. Bruce Aylward, Assistant Director-General for Universal Health Coverage and Life Course (signing on behalf of WHO)

The Donor Agreement represents a significant financial commitment from the Government of India to support traditional medicine on a global scale.

NIIT IFBI Launches 'ACE Banker Program' in Collaboration with HDFC Bank

NIIT Institute of Finance, Banking and Insurance (NIIT IFBI), a subsidiary of NIIT, announced the launch of the ACE Banker Program in collaboration with HDFC Bank. A key component of NIIT's Talent Pipeline as a Service (TPaaS) initiative, this programme aims to recruit and train customer service professionals for HDFC Bank.
The ACE Banker Program is designed to address the evolving needs of the banking sector by equipping participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to excel in customer service roles at HDFC Bank.

Education Minister Launches NATS 2.0 and Disburses Rs. 100 crore Stipends

Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, launched the National Apprenticeship and Training Scheme (NATS) 2.0 Portal in New Delhi. As part of this initiative, Rs. 100 crore in stipends was disbursed to young graduates and diploma holders through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). These apprentices are receiving on-the-job training across various sectors, including IT/ITes, manufacturing, and automobile industries.
The launch of the NATS 2.0 portal represents a significant step toward democratising apprenticeship opportunities, bridging skill gaps, and fulfilling the aspirations of youth, ultimately preparing them for future careers. The portal aims to facilitate a large number of beneficiaries to register and apply for apprenticeships while allowing establishments and industries to manage vacancies and contracts efficiently.
This initiative will support many young graduates and diploma holders in developing employability skills, accompanied by a guaranteed monthly stipend.

IIT Madras & IDBI Bank Join to Launch Cybersecurity Lab

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and IDBI Bank launched a cybersecurity lab to develop and deploy security solutions in crucial sectors including in healthcare, fintech and aerospace. The 'IDBI – IITM Secure Systems Lab' (I2SSL) was inaugurated at the IIT Madras campus.
The lab, according to IIT Madras, will focus on creating market-ready IPs in cybersecurity, productisation and commercialisation of research work, especially for mobile technologies.
This lab seeks to focus on cybersecurity in systems deployed in industries such as banking, automotive, power and telecommunications, among others, and undertake experimental evaluation and assessment exercises, IIT Madras said adding that the researchers would also develop test cases for testing, carry out vulnerability research, and help devise hardening guidelines.

Education Ministry Announces Guidelines for Bagless Days for Classes 6 to 8 Students

The Union Ministry of Education announced the guidelines for the implementation of bagless days for classes 6 to 8 and making learning in schools more joyful, experiential and stress-free.
The guidelines, developed by PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education, a unit of the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT), were released on the fourth anniversary of the new National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
The NEP, 2020, had recommended that all students in classes 6-8 participate in a 10-day bagless period.
"Ten bagless days activities can be accommodated in any number of slots in an annual calendar. But it is advisable to keep two or three slots. While developing an annual work plan, all subject teachers may be involved. If necessary, indoor and outdoor activities may be clubbed in a day," the guidelines stated.

NIEPID Launches Mobile Therapy Buses to Help Children with Disabilities in Rural Areas

The Hans Foundation, in collaboration with the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), launched the Mobile Therapy Buses initiative to provide life-changing services to children with disabilities living in remote, marginalised communities.
The initiative aims to address the unique needs of children with disabilities in rural areas by bringing them to their homes through the deployment of five mobile therapy buses. The buses are designed to provide intensive and life-changing services, including diagnostic, therapeutic, and skill development support to nearly 14,000 people with disabilities.

Indian Students Win Big at International Physics, Chemistry Olympiads

Indian students secured two gold and three silver medals at the 54th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2024 held between July 21 and July 29 in Isfahan, Iran. In the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO2024), held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from July 21 to 30, the Indian team bagged one gold one bronze and two silver medals.
In the Physics Olympiad, overall, India was placed in the fourth position, jointly with Vietnam. China bagged the top spot, followed by Russia and Romania in second and third positions, respectively. This time, a total of 193 students from 43 countries participated in the International Physics Olympiad. In all, 18 gold, 35 silver and 53 bronze medals were awarded.
In the International Chemistry Olympiad 2024, all members of the team of four managed to secure one medal each.
Medal Winners: International Chemistry Olympiad are Devesh (Gold), Jalgaon, Maharashtra, Avaneesh (Silver), Kota, Rasjasthan, Harshin (Silver), Hyderabad, Telangana and Kashyap (Bronze), Mumbai, Mahasrashtra.
