South Indian Adivasi Knowledge Centre Launched in B.R. Hills

  • South India's first adivasi library, 'Kaanu', was inaugurated at B.R. Hills in Chamarajanagar district in the state of Karnataka. 'Kaanu' means evergreen forest in Soliga language. It is the first South Indian Adivasi Knowledge Centre.
  • There is no institution dedicated for research on various aspects related to adivasis in South India.
  • Scholars from tribal communities held talks with Prashanth N. Srinivas, a medical doctor and public health researcher at BR Hills, and Wraner from Germany last year (2023) and decided to set up this exclusive library to showcase works and promote research on Jenu Kuruba, Kadu Kuruba, Betta Kuruba, Soliga and other forest-based tribes.

CBSE Collaborates with ISTM for Trainers Certification Course for Board's Resource Persons

  • The Central Board of Secondary Education joined hands with the Institute of Secretariat Training and Management (ISTM) under the Dept. of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the government of India to impart a two-day certificate course on the training of trainers.
  • The development aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) which stipulates 50 hours of continuous professional development for all teachers and head teachers. Under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, CBSE is targeting to train nearly 15000 Resource Persons (RPs) in several batches.
  • The course is designed with the core components of the Direct Trainers Skills (DTS) and Design of Training (DoT) and the Integrated Approaches to Child and Adolescent Development.

Education Ministry Launches Second Cycle of Learning Disability Training Programme

  • The Ministry of Education (MoE) launched the second cycle of its capacity-building programme on specific learning disability (SLD) under the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP).
  • The programme is intended to equip higher educational institutions (HEIs) with the skills and knowledge necessary to support students with specific learning disabilities. The second cycle of the program will run until December 2024, with sessions being held both online and in-person with a new set of identified HEIs.

Dhanuja Kumari, the Sanitation Worker Whose Book is Now in University Courses

  • Dhanuja Kumari, a sanitation worker from Kerala, defied all odds and became an author whose work is now included in the curriculum for BA students at Kannur University and MA students at Calicut University.
  • Dhanuja still walks the narrow streets of Ravi Nagar in Ambalamukku, collecting plastic waste while carrying a bright smile. Her book, 'Chengalchoolayile Ente Jeevitham' ('My Life in Chengalchoola'), chronicles her challenging life.
  • Dhanuja's book has received significant recognition, with its inclusion in the curriculum of BA and MA courses.
  • Her second book, which she is currently working on, will continue to reflect her personal experiences.

KITE Develops FOSS-based OS for Public Schools

  • Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) completed the development of a new free and open-source software (FOSS)-based operating system (OS) suite KITE GNU Linux 22.04 that can be used in three lakh computers available in public schools in the State.
  • The KITE GNU Linux 22.04 can be used as a complete computing platform not only for ICT learning in schools but also by students and teachers, and on computers used in homes, government offices, DTP centres, printing presses, software development companies, engineering colleges, and so on. The new version of the OS has been developed using the Wayland system instead of the xorg window mechanism currently used in operating systems in schools.

  • The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow concluded its flagship alumni conclave, Samvaad 2024, under the theme 'Shaping India's Growth Story.'   • The event featured four compelling panel discussions. The first, moderated by Akrati Solanki, Executive Director, Accordion, included Kamlesh Varshney, Full-time Member, SEBI, IRS '90, and Bhaskar Subramanian, Infra Expert and former advisor - NITI Aayog and KPMG. This panel delved into the complexities of strategy and governance, crucial elements in shaping India's economic trajectory.
  • The second panel, moderated by Dhruvin Chheda, Chief of Staff, Nykaa, featured industry leaders including Mr. Girish Deshpande, Senior Vice President, IDBI Capital Markets; Mr. Pavan Goyal, Head - Business Solutions at Clarista; and Ruishikesh Kamat, Director - Group Treasury at Aldar UAE.   • The fourth panel, moderated by Mousom Datta, Key Account Manager, ITC, included Venkatadri Ranganathan, CCO, Tata Chemicals; Mohit Gorisariya, Co-founder, SalarySe; and Tanya Jain, Head of Enterprise Business, Amazon London. This panel delved into key aspects of marketing, exploring the latest trends, strategies, and challenges in the field.
  • Additionally, the event also spotlighted India's role as a key growth engine for the world, contributing 16 per cent to global growth in 2023. With a thriving tech industry, India is not only boosting its economic growth but also positioning itself as a hub for innovation and technology services, playing a key role in shaping the future of the digital economy.

CBSE Issues Mandatory Document List for Schools Seeking Affiliation

  • The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a notification detailing the mandatory documents required for schools seeking affiliation with the board, as outlined in SARAS Manual 5.0. Schools applying for Fresh Affiliation, Upgradation, or Extension must submit various documents, including a Land Certificate and a Building Safety Certificate.
  • According to Clauses 1.3 (3) and 1.3 (5) of the SARAS Manual 5.0, schools must provide a Land Certificate that is not older than one year from the application date and in the prescribed format.
  • The Building Safety Certificate must detail all building blocks and floors on the school campus and must be issued by an officer of the Government works department, not below the rank of an Assistant Engineer.
