Gulzar and Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Named for Prestigious Jnanpith Award 2023

  • Renowned Urdu poet Gulzar and Sanskrit scholar Jagadguru Rambhadracharya were named the recipients of the 58th Jnanpith Award, the Jnanpith selection committee announced.
  • Sampooran Singh Kalra, popularly known as Gulzar, is celebrated for his works in Hindi cinema and is considered one of the finest Urdu poets of this era.
  • Rambhadracharya, the founder and head of Tulsi Peeth in Chitrakoot, is a renowned Hindu spiritual leader, educator and writer of more than 240 books and texts, including four epics.
  • Gulzar received the Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu in 2002, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2013, Padma Bhushan in 2004, and at least five National Film awards for his works.
  • Rambhadracharya is one of the present four Jagadguru Ramanandacharyas of the Ramananda sect and has been holding this position since 1982.
  • Established in 1944, the Jnanpith Award is given annually for outstanding contributions to Indian literature. This is the second time the award is being given for Sanskrit language and the fifth time for Urdu language.
  • The award carries a prize money of Rs 21 lakh, a statue of Vagdevi and a citation.
  • The recipients for the award were decided by a selection committee chaired by Jnanpith awardee Pratibha Rai.

BAFTA Awards 2024

  • The BAFTA Film Awards, the most coveted honours in the British movie industry, were handed out in London.
  • The 77th BAFTA Film Awards 2024 took place at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre in London, Britain. The ceremony was hosted by David Tennant for the first time. Many big names descended on the red carpet to attend the awards ceremony, including Indian actress Deepika Padukone, who was also a presenter. It was the actress' first time attending the BAFTAs and she embraced her Indian roots for the occasion.
  • Here is a short list of winners: Best film – Oppenheimer, Leading actress - Emma Stone for Poor Things, Leading actor - Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer, Director - Christopher Nolan.

South Indian Bank Gets Best Technology Bank of the Year Award

  • South Indian Bank was honoured with the title of Best Technology Bank of the Year Award at the 19th IBA Annual Banking Technology Conference, Expo, & Citations.
  • The bank's outstanding performance was recognised with a total of six prestigious awards. In three categories, the bank emerged as the winner, secured the runner-up position in one, and received special mentions in two others.
  • The awards were presented to P. R. Seshadri, MD & CEO of South Indian Bank, by T. Rabi Sankar, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, in Mumbai.
  • The IBA Annual Banking Technology Conference, Expo & Citations has been an annual event since its inception in 2005. Instituted by the Indian Banks' Association (IBA), it recognises organisations that have brought in transformational changes in their businesses by adopting modern digital solutions.

City Union Bank Wins IBA's Banking Technology Awards

  • City Union Bank, under the stewardship of Dr. N. Kamakodi, claimed an impressive seven awards at the 19th Banking Technology Conference, Expo & Citations 2023. The event, organised by the Indian Banks Association (IBA), recognised the institution's exceptional performance in various categories, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Fintech DPI Adoption, and Financial Inclusion.
  • The ceremony, held in the presence of T Rabi Sankar, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, saw City Union Bank (CUB) take home the coveted titles of Best AI ML Bank, Best Fintech DPI Adoption, and Best Financial Inclusion. These accolades highlight the bank's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to provide superior services to its clients.
  • In addition to these top honors, CUB also secured runner-up positions in the categories of Best Digital Engagement, Best IT Risk Management, and Best Technology Talent. India Wins the 9th GovTech Prize for AI-Powered Road Safety Initiative

  • India was honoured with the 9th GovTech Prize at the World Government Summit 2024, held in the United Arab Emirates. This accolade is a testament to India's innovative use of artificial intelligence in enhancing government services, specifically under the 'AI-Powered Government Services' category. The award, established by the UAE government, acknowledges the creative and innovative technological solutions implemented by government entities worldwide.
  • The Ministry for Road Transport & Highways of the Government of India was recognised for its groundbreaking project, iRASTE (Intelligent Solutions for Road Safety through Technology and Engineering). This initiative stands out as a pioneering endeavour that integrates AI technology to tackle the challenges of road safety, marking a significant evolution from traditional methods. iRASTE is a collaborative effort that brings together the government, industry, and academia to leverage the predictive capabilities of AI for preemptive road safety measures.
  • The GovTech Prize was awarded by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the crown prince of Dubai, and was received on behalf of India by Tadu Mamu, Consul at the Consulate General of India.
