North Korea's Mount Paektu Listed as UNESCO Global Geopark

The North Korea's Mount Paektu, an active stratovolcano on the North Korean-Chinese border, was designated as a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Global Geopark.
UNESCO's executive board approved the recognition, marking the first time a natural reservoir in North Korea has been given a global geopark designation. According to UNESCO's website, it is given to locations that contain sites of "international geological significance managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development."

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha Inaugurates State Level Jatra Utsav

With the initiative of Information & Cultural Affairs Department, Government of Tripura organised State Level Jatra Utsav in collaboration with Dharmanagar administration at Vivekananda Shardha-Satabarshiki Bhavan, Dharmanagar. In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated State Level Jatra Utsav by lighting the lamp.
Addressing at the inauguration ceremony of State Level Jatra Utsav Chief Minister Manik Saha said that the traditional customs and culture of the state cannot be allowed to disappear under any circumstances. The Department of Information and Culture is restoring the lost customs and cultures.
Jatra groups from different districts of the State are participating in the 13-day State Level Jatra Festival. The 13-day State Level Jatra Festival continues till April 23. The Jatra Festival will not be held on April 14 and 15.

Pondicherry Heritage Festival 2025

The 11^th edition of the Pondicherry Heritage Festival was held with a vibrant display of culture, history, and community spirit in Puducherry's Tamil Quarter. The event was marked by the 'Veedhi Vilayattu' (Street Games). Children had the chance to experience and engage in traditional games from the past, while the community came together to celebrate their heritage. The festival brought the streets to life with traditional activities, food, and fun, successfully engaging more than 250 children and numerous residents.

Haryana Declares Two Harappan Sites as Protected Archaeological Monuments

The Haryana government officially declared two Harappan civilization sites located in Bhiwani district — Mitathal and Tighrana — as protected archaeological sites and monuments. These sites, dating back over 4,400 years, hold immense historical and cultural value, shedding light on the evolution of early agricultural societies, town planning, craft industries, and trade during the Harappan and post-Harappan periods. The sites have now been brought under legal protection through a notification issued by the Haryana Heritage and Tourism Department under the Haryana Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1964. The move aims to safeguard these ancient settlements from encroachment and damage, with fencing and security arrangements to be implemented.

Odisha's Rath Yatra, Bali Yatra Find Place in Centre's Intangible Cultural Heritage List

Getting a step closer towards securing the UNESCO Intangible Heritage tag, Odisha's Rath Yatra and Bali Jatra were included in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Sangeet Natak Akademi under Ministry of Culture.
Terming the development as a proud moment for Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi hoped for the UNESCO recognition for both the festivals.
