IIT Madras Includes 'International Immersion Learning' to its MBA Programme
The Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) included an 'International Immersion Learning' component to its executive MBA programme for working professionals.
The core focus of the International Immersion Learning programme is on Global Leadership and Cultural Intelligence. Under this initiative, several students from the '23 and '24 batches of the executive MBA programme attended a 9-day immersion programme at IÉSEG School of Management in two countries and three locations – Brussels in Belgium and Paris, Lille in France.
IIT Jodhpur Scientists Develop 'CODE' Device for Good Indoor Air Quality
Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur researchers developed a novel Cold-plasma Detergent in Environment 'CODE' device for good indoor air quality. The device has been tested extensively which deactivates more than 99.99 per cent of harmful pathogens and provides quality indoor air. Air pollution is basically one of the top 5 risks causing chronic diseases, according to the World Health Organisation.
IIM-Calcutta Director Uttam Kumar Sarkar Resigns
The Director of the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C), Uttam Kumar Sarkar, is learnt to have resigned over differences with the Board chairperson, making him the second institute head in two years to leave before completing a five-year term.
Sarkar was appointed director on August 18, 2021, and still had almost three years left of his term.
Incidentally, Sarkar's predecessor, Anju Seth, who was the first woman director of IIM-C, quit in March 2021. She had more than a year left of her term.

NCERT Granted Deemed University Status: Dharmendra Pradhan
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) was granted the status of deemed university, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced.
The minister made the announcement at an event to mark the 63rd Foundation Day of NCERT in the national capital.
Pradhan also called for the merging of Bal Bhavans and Bal Vatika with the NCERT to provide holistic education to children.
NCERT was established in 1961 under the Society Act to assist and advise the government in the matter of school education. Its headquarters are located at in New Delhi. Dr. Dinesh Prasad Saklani is Director of the council since 2022.
It was formed through the merger seven government organizations: the Central Institute of Education, The Central Bureau of Textbook Research, the Central Bureau of Educational and Vocational Guidance, the Directorate of Extension Programmes for Secondary Education, the National Institute of Basic Education, the National Fundamental Education Centre, and the National Institute of Audio-Visual Education. It is separate from the National Council for Teacher Education.
French Language to be Included in Telangana Govt. School Curriculum
In a new initiative that aims to enhance the grooming of students at a secondary level of education, the Telangana government decided to introduce French language in Telangana government schools.
The programme, titled 'French for All, French for a Better Future', is a joint effort by the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS), the Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS) and the French Institute in India (IFI).
The agreement to introduce the French language in Telangana schools was officially sealed when the mentioned parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
In this collaboration, the French Institute (IFI) will train teachers in communicative French, give students access to its cultural and academic platforms, as well as organise workshops and seminars to inform them about study opportunities in France.
Nagaland's First Medical College Welcomes First Batch of 100 Students
The Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR), the state's first medical college, became functional with the induction of the first batch of 100 students.
NIMSR dean-cum-director Dr. Soumya Chakraborty said that the first batch has 100 MBBS students -- 85 from Nagaland and 15 from other parts of the country.

T. V. Narendran is New Chairperson for IIT Kharagpur Board of Governors
The CEO and Managing Director of Tata Steel Limited, T. V. Narendran was appointed as the new chairperson of Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.
Narendran has over 34 years of experience in the field of mining and metals industry. He is a mechanical engineer from NIT Trichy and MBA from IIM Calcutta.
