  • Secretary and Bharat Lal, Secretary General, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India were also present.
  • The day-long conference, organised by NHRC in collaboration with the Sankala Foundation and supported by the NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, brought together practitioners, government officials, leading experts, innovators and policy makers in the field of healthcare and digital healthcare technology to explore the way forward for universal access to affordable and quality healthcare services especially for people living in rural, remote and hilly areas.
  • Paul underlined the following five key principles for digital health solutions to embrace:
  • Use of digital technologies and scaling them for saturation
  • Creating new technologies like robotics, AI etc., but in a way that it does not increase the digital divide, and can be easily used by those who are not digitally literate
  • Ensure solutions are within the ambit of rights and promote inclusivity, protection of human rights and further democratisation, with attention to protect the beneficiaries from cyber fraud
  • Digital solutions should promote or create an ecosystem of ease of living and not make it more complex for people
  • Digital solutions must enhance quality of life, embrace wellbeing, include traditional knowledge, and accelerate our healthcare actions

Manipur CM Biren Singh-led Political Delegation Meets Governor, Submits Memorandum

  • Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh accompanied by the Speaker, cabinet ministers, and BJP MLAs met Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.
  • The delegation reportedly submitted a memorandum with a charter of demands to the Centre through the Governor, apprising the Union Government about the prevailing situation in Manipur.

PM Modi to Not Address UNGA Session, Jaishankar to Deliver Speech

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not address the annual debate at the United Nations General Assembly session later this month, according to a revised provisional list of speakers issued by the UN.
  • PM Modi is scheduled to travel to New York later this month and address a mega community event on September 22 at the 16,000-seater Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island. He will also address the UN's landmark 'Summit of the Future' that is being convened at the world body's headquarters on September 22 and 23.
  • External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is now expected to address the General Debate, instead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 28.

Olympian Bajrang Punia Named Working Chairman of All India Kisan Congress

  • Indian wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress party, ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections next month. They met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi before holding a press conference where party leader K. C. Venugopal confirmed their membership.
  • Wrestler Bajrang Punia was also appointed as the Working Chairman of the All India Kisan Congress, hours after he joined the party along with Vinesh Phogat.

UP Women's Commission Gets New Chaorperson

  • The Uttar Pradesh government announced new appointments to the state women's commission. Babita Chauhan was appointed as Chairperson, while Aparna Yadav and Charu Chaudhary were designated as Vice-Chairpersons.
  • Aparna Yadav, a BJP leader and the younger daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, was appointed as one of the Vice-Chairpersons of the UP Rajya Mahila Aayog.
  • Governor Anandiben Patel exercised her powers to nominate Babita Chauhan as chairperson of the UP Rajya Mahila Aayog, and Aparna Yadav and Charu Chaudhary as vice-chairpersons of the commission for a period of one year or till UP government's decision.

  • This visit marked 40 years of diplomatic relations between India and Brunei.
  • The Indian Prime Minister received a warm welcome from Brunei's Crown Prince Haji AlMuhtadee Billah. He met with Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The leaders engage in high-level bilateral discussions to enhance relations and explore new opportunities for collaboration between the two nations.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Launches AgriSURE Fund

  • Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the AgriSURE Fund and Krishi Nivesh Portal in New Delhi.
  • The AgriSURE Fund aims to support those start-ups that works towards the development in agriculture-boosting ideas and plans. Through this, the government wants to bring a boost to the agriculture sector.
  • "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, we have helped launch many start-ups to help bring about a positive change in the agriculture sector," Chouhan noted in his speech during the inauguration of the fund.
  • With the introduction of the AgriSURE fund, the government aims to further drive investments in the agriculture sector that will empower farmers and boost the rural economy through accelerating accessible and affordable innovative solutions.

India-Singapore Ties Get a Boost

  • In a bid to boost bilateral ties, India and Singapore signed MoUs for cooperation in semiconductors, digital technologies, skill development, and healthcare during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit.
  • This came as PM Modi held a productive meeting with his Singapore counterpart Lawrence Wong, during which the two leaders agreed to elevate the ties to a 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.'
