Logo for 7th North East Youth Festival 2024 Unveiled

  • The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports officially unveiled the logo for the highly anticipated 7th North East Youth Festival 2024. The emblem beautifully encapsulates the vibrant essence of the north-eastern states, marking a tribute to the rich cultural tapestry of the region. Moreover, the festival chose the Phayre's leaf monkey as its mascot, further symbolising the unique biodiversity and heritage of the north east.
  • Scheduled to take place in Tripura from February 26 to 29, this four-day cultural gala promises to be a spectacular convergence of youth, art, and tradition. The festival is set to bring together youth representatives from across the eight states in the north-eastern region, including participants from the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS).

Tribal Festival 'Sammakka Saralamma Jatara' Kicks Off In Telangana

  • The Medaram Jatara, known as Sammakka Saralamma Jatara', was held in Medaram, Mulugu district, showcasing Telangana's rich tribal heritage. This four-day event, considered the world's largest tribal gathering, attracts pilgrims to the remote village of Medaram once every two years.
  • The Medaram Jatara holds historical significance as it commemorates the struggle of a mother and daughter duo, Sammakka and Saralamma, against unjust rulers. Their courage and resilience have been immortalised through this festival, symbolising the spirit of tribal communities.
  • The scale of the Medaram Jatara is staggering, with around one crore pilgrims visit Medaram during the four-day festival. People from various tribal communities, not only from Telangana but also from states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and parts of Jharkhand, make the journey to participate in this celebration of faith and culture.
  • The significance of the Medaram Jatara is such that it was declared a state festival in 1998, highlighting its cultural and religious importance. This recognition underscores the festival's role in preserving and promoting tribal heritage and traditions.

Cultural Milestone for MP: Khajuraho Dance Festival Sets World Record

  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated the golden jubilee (50th edition) event of the Khajuraho Dance Festival. The occasion witnessed a remarkable feat as 1,484 artists came together to set a new Guinness World Record for the biggest Kathak dance performance ever, showcasing the talent and cultural richness of the region.
  • The Kathak Kumbh performance, held at the renowned world heritage site, marks the third consecutive world record achievement for Madhya Pradesh, following the successful events in Ujjain and Gwalior. In Ujjain, 1,171,078 diyas were lit to establish a world record, while Gwalior witnessed 1,600 tabla artists playing in unison during the Taal Darbar at the Tansen Samaroh in Gwalior Fort, securing another accolade. The Kathak dance extravaganza at the Khajuraho Dance Festival (KDF) added to the state's tally of world records.

The 11th International Puppet Festival in Chandigarh

  • The Union Territory of Chandigarh became a melting pot of cultural heritage and artistic innovation as it hosted the 11th International Puppet Festival at Tagore Theatre. The event, inaugurated by Punjab Governor and Administrator of Union Territory Chandigarh, Banwarilal Purohit, alongside Adviser to the Administrator Rajeev Verma and other dignitaries, marked a significant celebration of puppetry's rich legacy and its enduring appeal across ages.
  • The festival commenced with a spellbinding performance by the Novosibirsk Regional Puppet Theatre from Russia, captivating the audience with the renowned puppet show "Petrushka." This opening act set the tone for the festival, showcasing the global appeal and artistic depth of puppetry.
  • In a bid to make the festival accessible to a broader audience, the Department organized special morning shows exclusively for school students, while evening shows were open to the general public. This thoughtful scheduling ensured that enthusiasts of all ages had the opportunity to experience the magic of puppetry firsthand.
  • This exhibition offered visitors a unique opportunity to explore the art of puppet-making through live demonstrations. Artisans and puppeteers shared their skills and insights, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the intricate craftsmanship that goes into creating these enchanting figures.

Aadi Mahotsav - National Tribal Festival Concludes

  • The annual 'Aadi Mahotsav – National Tribal Festival', inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu concluded. The 9 day festival was organised in the heart of the capital city at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi, from February 10 to February 18 by TRIFED showcasing its commitment to empowering tribal communities through celebration of the spirit of tribal entrepreneurship, crafts, culture, cuisine, and commerce.
  • The highlights of this year (2024) included launching of the Venture Capital Fund for Scheduled Tribes aiming to nurture start-up culture and economic innovation among tribal entrepreneurs.
  • Approximately 1100 tribal artisans, artists, healers, chefs, and cultural troupes from 27 States and Union Territories showcased their work.
  • From handicrafts and handloom textiles to paintings and jewellery, each masterpiece showcased exceptional craftsmanship and untold stories woven into tribal culture.
